Welcome to orbit, where it’s always five o’clock somewhere.
Margaritaville has introduced a new mission patch designed to support research sponsored by the International Space Station (ISS) National Laboratory. The patch ($20) pairs with a sticker ($10) featuring the same design and an ISS Spacesuit ($150), accompanied by ten unique Margaritaville patches. Sales of the patch directly benefit space-based investigations aimed at addressing environmental challenges on Earth.
Mission patches have long served as a way to engage the public with space missions, but this marks the first time a patch design will contribute funding toward ISS National Lab research. The patch, based on artwork developed years ago by Jimmy Buffett, features the space station orbiting above a tropical landscape, along with nautical and day-night elements inspired by Buffett’s interests in aviation and boating. It is the only individual patch available for purchase and is featured prominently on the ISS Spacesuit.
The ISS Spacesuit is currently available for preorder and ships in four weeks.
The patch is available online, in retail stores, and at Margaritaville locations. All proceeds will be donated to the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), the nonprofit responsible for managing the ISS National Lab. The initiative aims to support investigations ranging from remote sensing work to studies focused on sustainable resource use.
The project aims to honor Buffett’s longstanding commitment to environmental conservation while contributing to ongoing research efforts in low Earth orbit. CASIS leadership noted that the collaboration highlights how creative partnerships can expand support for scientific work aboard the International Space Station.
The mission patch is available through the Margaritaville online store. Find everything you need for margaritas in space at margaritavillestore.com.
