muskrit puts world in mouth?

yes, muskrit. good muskrit!

1/24/13 06:49 pm - oh yeah, dreamwidth

I kind of forgot I had this journal. I completely forgot I had this icon until I logged in just now and was greeted by it. Ah ha ha, why would I ever *not* have this as my default icon?

Anyhow, I'm going to try to get back into the swing of posting over here, although I'll still read over at LJ (which I'm also trying to get back into the swing of doing). I've lost track of so many people over the years and I'm not sure how to find them all now, but maybe this will be a start...

As for me, I'm still working at the porn company, living in Orange County and telecommuting even though I'm no longer house sitting. I feel like this will be a year of Big Changes--or maybe I just feel like it has to be, or I'll be stuck in the rut forever.

Haven't been writing lately but also hope to change that. I've been reading YA fiction in preparation and feeling dismayed/depressed by the romance angle (more prominent in some than in others, but always present). So I don't know if this field interests any of you, but if you a rec for a book that defies the seemingly requisite YA love triangle in any way, please send it my way!

1/19/13 09:43 pm - fringe...

Okay, I need some help understanding the series finale of Fringe.

It's probably obvious but I can't seem to wrap my head around it...Collapse )

1/18/13 08:06 pm - ugh. and halp. also: hi, hello.

All right, so, what does "pending Delete" in the status of a whois search mean? Does that mean the domain should be available soon? Because I want to buy back my old domain. I know the files are lost forever (in a series of unfortunate miscalculations, I somehow skipped every single back-up thinking I'd have the files in one of the other back-ups...that I didn't do), but I just kind of want the domain back. Right now it is a page in German for a weight loss supplement, but the whois info I've looked up says the registration expired in 2010...

Also, hi and hello and how are you and I'm really going to try to be much, much better at getting back into the swing of things!

11/9/12 06:14 am - i'm not dead yet! i'm getting better!

Just came over to delete a handful of spam comments from various entries, and saw I haven't updated here in over a year...

Too much to recap! TL;DR, I'm still alive.

Also, I'm living in Orange County again. Ah ha ha, yep.

7/12/11 10:52 am - sometimes the gods answer in strange ways

I've been feeling kind of burned out by Yaoi Con the past few years and really waffled about going for the last two, but since I lived in the Bay Area at the time it seemed silly not to go. Now that I'm back in L.A., I figured the ride--fun while it lasted--was finally over. Nothing could get me to go, except maybe an appearance by Miyano Mamoru (I'd cross multiple oceans and land masses to see him in concert, but such a thing at Y-Con will never happen) or Inariya Fusanosuke (because I live and die by Maiden Rose, I'm so seriously).

See y'all in SF in October.

7/4/11 07:52 am - 10 Things I Learned at Anime Expo This Year

I haven't watched any anime for the past season or possibly two seasons, so I didn't think I wanted to go to AX this year. But it's approximately 583 degrees fahrenheit in the North Valley. So I went, and this is what I learned:Collapse )

4/12/11 04:11 pm - mystery picture asks, "can you identify me?" - solved!

I have a folder on one of my external drives called "fanart - !UNIDENTIFIED." The exclamation mark is there to keep that folder at the top of the list, so it will mock me immediately whenever I open the drive. Well, after 4 years I've grown pretty sick and tired of all that mockery, so I decided today was the day to identify and properly file those 1200 images.

1199 images later, all that's stopping me from achieving my dream are the two people in this picture:Collapse )

ETA: Solved, thanks to [personal profile] kalloway (and confirmed by several folks over here)! Tifa and Cloud from FFVII.

4/7/11 11:56 pm - badfic wishes

Today I thought I would deal with some of the challenges of life here by revisiting some badfic favorites. To my chagrin, my yahoo mail account was wiped due to inactivity on my part, so I lost all the treasures I've saved there through the years (the "good" as well as the "bad"). Then Windsor suggested I try GWA for some of the Gundam Wing stuff--and it is down.

I know some of you, like me, have an inordinate fondness for badfic. If you've saved any over the years, would you mind sending them my way? jenn dot abiding at gmail dot com. I'm open to anything but am particularly hoping for GW stories and Lotrips (the Danish flag and deaf goth girlfriend would be especially appreciated!).

Thank you in advance, from the bottom of my heart.

1/21/11 11:09 am - so this is love

So like. Some of you know how I have a thing for anime characters who are amputees, right? Well, the steam cleaners came this morning (I'm back in southern California now, btw, which is fantastic except that the house was a disaster zone when I arrived, so I've had to hire professionals after completely giving up). When I shook the hand of the lead guy, Carl, the stump of where his pinky finger had been grazed my palm.

*shiver*

I guess we can consider this a full-blown fetish now.

Which of course has nothing to do with the fact that I'm calling the company and asking them to come out again next week to do the living room. That's an actual necessity, since everything I owned is currently piled up in there and the carpet and drapery will definitely need to be steamed clean.

Definitely.

12/3/10 11:14 am - life as we do not know it

Fair warning, you guys: I've had two cups of caffeinated beverage this morning. So I may get a little spammy throughout the day.

If you haven't seen it already, there is some AH-MAY-ZING news from NASA (link courtesy of Slashdot):

NASA-funded astrobiology research has changed the fundamental knowledge about what comprises all known life on Earth.

Researchers conducting tests in the harsh environment of Mono Lake in California have discovered the first known microorganism on Earth able to thrive and reproduce using the toxic chemical arsenic.

"The definition of life has just expanded," said Ed Weiler, NASA's associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at the agency's Headquarters in Washington.

Full news release here.

I've been having a debate with my dad lately about the value of fiction. He has no use for it, though he reads more non-fiction than almost anyone I know and is my go-to guy for those recommendations. So one of the things I love about this revelation is that speculative fiction writers got there first. Huzzah for fiction! \0/
