MMM 683

President’s Day so I’m off the clock, which is why we were able to finally finish the Christmas 2025 season with my in-laws yesterday. Missed it the first time because I was violently ill emptying my alimentary canal from both ends. With that imagery hopefully not in mind, we begin.

Split-level triptych.

GET UP

Wakey wakey, everyone. FTR, I was ASKED to do this … heap your blame on Lumpy.

It’s been 4 long months since I last went to a concert. This is how it goes … feast or famine. But my famine ends NEXT week and the 2026 CONCERT SEASON begins with a banger of a week.

First up- Nothing More at a tiny theater in Detroit that I love – The Fillmore. It used to be called The State. A little history for you nuts:

The building was named for Francis Palms, a First French Empire native who moved to Detroit in 1832 and made his fortune in real estate development.[5] Palms’ descendants continued in real estate as the Palms Realty Company,[6] and constructed this building at a time when Detroit’s population and the popularity of movies was booming.

The theatre was constructed in 1925 as a movie house in the Renaissance Revival style of architecture. C. Howard Crane was the original architect, and the building is still called the Francis Palms Building.

The theatre was originally called the State Theatre when it opened in 1925. It was renamed the Palms-State Theatre in 1937 and the Palms Theatre in 1946. In 1982 it was renamed back to the State Theatre. And in 2007 (as a national re-branding) it was renamed, this time the Fillmore Theatre.”

I first went to The State in 1986 and saw The Smiths (my favorite band at the time). I didn’t return (busy having babies – even though Tool played there early in their career) until I took Ethan to see … Nothing More about 8 or 9 years ago. The building is amazing.

Enough about the venue … onto the band that I am seeing! The band is originally from Texas but has moved the Nashville with everyone else. They love guns and are politically conservative. I often see that the singer has liked the same videos I have. This is one of their sweeter songs, although the video doesn’t really track with the sentiment.

That SAME week, I’m also see these little cuties! (again, a mellower song for everyone’s sensitive ears). They’ve been together for a while, despite the fact that the lead singer looks about 17. Interesting tidbit – these guys are HUGE songwriters and actually have written songs for many other bands.

After this banger of a start to the season …. I’ve got these German fellas playing in a TINY theater in Detroit (really, really small) and I’m pretty excited for it. These kids are basically prodigies.

Music nerd time … here’s a guy reacting to one of their songs:

Enough about them … Next band – one of my favorite bands …. Northlane. Singer for this band got the job when he participated in an online audition/contest when the old singer quit. It was a big deal in their home country of Australia, but most everywhere else few knew of them. It was a big change – they went from a harsh vocalist to one who could do both (cleans and harsh). People were big mad, but it was a huge improvement.

After Northlane, I’m trying to sneak in a show between a bunch of other life events, because I really, really love this band:

So many shows, but I have one more planned – late summer I get to see these folks:

So far that’s what I got planned. But if these guys tour … I’m waiting … it was one of the best shows I saw last year. So much fun. This song was released this week … you will all hate it. But if you’re interested in what many of the shows I go to are like …it’s pretty much on display.

That’s it. I will spend the rest of today basking in the hate that will be directed my way. Get it out. GET IT ALL OUT.

I’m protected. You PEOPLE can’t hurt me.
