Since I now have my 8th Edition hardcover in hand, I'm going to start going through it and posting my thoughts on this new version of 40K. What I like, what I don't, and what I just find interesting.
We'll start with the Introduction and Core Rules.

New Quick Reference Guide
It's been a month of craziness, what with Cub Scout camps, a family wedding, and my 3rd Sinus surgery just this past week. But I did get to meet (thanks to Farmpunk) a cool guy named Stephen McCormick who's just moved to Indy, and who's already started a miniature game company with some of his friends from various parts of Indiana and Illinois.

Team Yankee: The Rules
By CaulynDarr
I've been waiting for Flames of War Modern since I started playing Flames of War, and finally it's here. Well, the rules and Americans at least. The Russians won't arrive till this weekend due to manufacturing delays. Here's my impressions from a first reading of the rule book.

Hot 40k Rules
TheGravemind
OK, so it has been flaring all across the blogs, and I've been addressing it long before, so I wanted to bring it up here. I have two core rules I feel are being brought up and challenged. It all really started when tau came out, but with eldar now has come to full volume.

Will Digital Publishing Destroy The Local Game Store?
by SandWyrm
As Privateer Press gears up to release War Room for the iPad this April, with it's integrated rules and army builder; should we be scared of it's effect on the profit margins of the local game store? Digital 3D printing is an obvious future threat (or opportunity) to anyone selling model kits, but are gaming books actually more important to their bottom line?

Is It Time To Worry Yet?
by SandWyrm
Ok, it's finally time for me to admit something that I've been avoiding talking about for a while. Which is the the creeping realization that 40K is starting to get as unbalanced as Warhammer Fantasy Battle. Even amongst the newest 5th Edition Codices.

Serial Vs. Parallel Dice Rolling
by SandWyrm
Mike Brandt wrote something yesterday as a comment to my post on dice over-rolling in 40K that I thought deserved a detailed reply. Since he's made the same comment before when I was discussing the Random-ness of Orks. Where I think that he is confusing the benefits of rolling dice in Parallel (all together at once) with rolling dice in Series (one after the other).

Why Do We Roll So Many Dice In 40K?
by SandWyrm
40K: "Hi, my name is 40K, and I have a problem."
Players: "Hi 40K!"
40K: "I'm, I'm... I'm addicted to needless dice rolling."
Players: (Applause)

If 40K Had Better Tank Rules...
by SandWyrm
I've been playing World of Tanks for about a week now. With 364 battles under my belt, or a bit more than double my 5th Edition 40K experience, I'm starting to crave some changes to how vehicles work in 40K. Here's my accumulated thoughts.

Warpath: First Impressions
by SandWyrm
Yeah, I broke down and subscribed to Beasts of War (about $6/Month) so that I could download the alpha test rules for Warpath, Mantic's upcoming 40K competitor, from their members-only area. What's it like? Well, I've got some good news, and I have some bad news.

40K Rules Question: Emergency Disembarkation
by SandWyrm
Quick question for the Back 40K community: What happens when you're forced to do an emergency disembark from a vehicle?

Should 40K Missile Launchers Work Differently?
by SandWyrm
One of the first things that you learn as an Imperial Guard player is that infantry missile launchers are overcosted. At 15 points, a missile launcher is 50% more expensive than an autocannon; yet it's about 30% less likely to take out a vehicle. To my mind, missile launchers should cost the same as an autocannon. With the difference in penetrating power offset by it's ability to shoot frag blasts when needed.
But then I got to thinking... What sort of overall 40K rules change would make missile launchers worth that extra 5 points; while also making them work more like their real-world counterparts: The Bazooka or RPG? Meaning a light anti-tank weapon that's highly portable.

Multi-assault question. The rules say what?
By TheGraveMind
So I've heard this many times before, and even played it this way for a while. A unit in combat cannot attack a unit that assaults it next turn. If this is true it is a great tactic for my Tyranids again, but alas as I see it, it is crap. If you disagree and think you can explain it to me, please read through and tell me where I'm wrong.

How in the H#@L do Ruins work in 40K?
by Spaguatyrine
So as the February Tournament Season is coming and I am getting ready to knock some heads and hopefully represent this blog and Space Wolf players well, I cannot help but ask this question....How in the H-E-#-L does this rule get so......
