Mawloc vs Trygon

By TheGraveMind
Found this over at BOLS
I've been going back and forth about to run mawlocs or trygons in my list. I'll list some of my thoughts, but I want you all to weigh in what you are more afraid of facing. They both have great uses and can be very rough on the opponents, and so it really comes down to what you need in your list, and how you want to play them.

Battlefront's John Paul Speaks Up

by SandWyrm

I still don't agree with the new Battlefront-only model policy for their official FoW tournaments. After all, their openness in allowing other models to be used was a big reason I took the plunge into playing the game in the first place, and I don't think that it will accomplish anything but pissing off their adoring fans. But well... Battlefront still is not GW, and John Paul has proved it by commenting directly in their forums about the issue. It's thoughtful and worth a read.

Aww Battlefront... Why'd You Go And Do That?

by Sandwyrm

Given that I'm always comparing Battlefront to GW, and crowing about the lower price of playing their game, I would be remiss if I didn't comment on something Battlefront just did that I don't care for at all. Particularly as it will reduce what I saw as a healthy competition between manufacturers of Flames-compatable miniatures.

My 1625 Mid-War List Deconstructed

by SandWyrm

I'm officially qualified for the FoW Mid-War Nationals at the end of the month, but I won't be able to go due to a conflict. So there's no harm in breaking down how my German 1625 Mid-War list works. That should help folks who might be interested in the thinking behind how a competitive Flames of War army is put together. I know it's been hard to find good info on this myself.

Knocking Down The Flying Circus

by SandWyrm

So Spag, who has been playing 6th all weekend, called today to get ideas on how to knock down a Fateweaver Flying Circus (We have a LOT of Daemon players around here.). Here's my solution:

Reader Email: IG Questions And Stuff

by SandWyrm

Jason Writes:
First off, I've enjoyed visiting your blog site (The Back 40K) for awhile now, and between it and your posts on Librarium Online, I have been happy to glean as much IG wisdom as possible.  A bunch of us locally are getting into 40k this summer, or like myself getting back into it after a long hiatus.  I like the feel of your lists and playing philosophy and it has certainly influenced the Mordian army I'm currently working on as it pretty much matches how I've wanted to play IG all along.  Although I admit I have a lot to learn in practical experience.

Playing The New 24" Game

by SandWyrm

The new Grey Knights have been out for a little while now, and no doubt everyone is busy figuring out how to modify their existing armies to better cope with them. It's the same with my IG. I've done OK so far, but some things definitely need to be tweaked.

Tactica: Redundancy vs Utility

by Spaguatyrine

As super mega lists fly off of every computer keyboard on the inter webs including mine, and people pick apart lists to make the most optimized list possible I have come to a conclusion about some "advice" I hear.........

My Cheating Army List

by SandWyrm

Heh. There's quite the row on BoLS right now about what an acceptable army list printout looks like. Evidently Army Builder's 4-page, deforesting wall-o-text printout is the be all and end all of army list creation methods, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a WAAC cheating scumbag.

The new army conundrum: or how i learned to stop playing orks and love something else

by Uberdark

So here I am spending yet another day, considering lists, looking at my orks.  I'm currently getting them ready for ard' boyz this summer, but I keep having this little itch at the back of my head.  It keeps saying: "Do a new army, paint more pretty things, and for the love of God don't make it RED!"

Making Sanguinary Guard More Competitive

by SandWyrm

Since we're talking about Descent-Of-Angels armies lately, I might as well chime in with my future plans for making the Emo-Wing more competitive vs. MSU armies.

Spaguatyrines 1500 pt Grey Knight List: 1st Run

by Spaguatyrine

So after looking at the codex a few times, adding in my play style, double checking my mistakes when I read it the first time, finding some pictures of the codex, etc. Here is my first run at 1500 points.

The High Price Of Being Evil

by SandWyrm

Stelek just posted a competitive 2K Dark Eldar list on YTTH today. Looking at it, I got to wondering: "What does this baby cost?"

Thinking outside of T6; Heavy Support

By TheGraveMind

And we thought Godfexes were expensive in 4th edition
Tyranid heavy support, the home of the T6. You have trygons and mawlocs, carnifex, tyranofex, and the little biovore. Trygons and Tyrannofexes are the most common of the culprits taken for this FOC slot. But lets take a look at the other possibilities.

First, lets have a moment of silence for the "Godfex". Never again shall such an amazing monstrosity of upgraded biomass walk across the battle field. Compare a venom cannon, crushing claw and regenerating Godfex with the bells and whistles. The 5th edition Fex clocks in at 270 points, while the 4th edition was sitting around 250. Granted the newer one has two more attacks, but what did we lose? Oh nothing important, just T7 W5 2+ for less points. A base 85 point carnifex (and 75 point Hive tyrant) would make people run screaming in this day and age. Oh how the young forget. But we cannot change the past, lets look toward the future....

Reader Question: IG Army List Critique

by SandWyrm and Farmpunk

Hello and happy holidays.

I have been reading the blog for a while and to me it seams like Sandwyrm is one heck of an experienced Imperial guard player, and thats why i would love to get some constructive criticism on my planed imperial guard list.

Thinking outside of T6; Troops take 2

By TheGraveMind

I actually know a place that sells this starwars poster, I might have to buy it. Back to the topic at hand, Tyranid troop options. I've talked about using warriors instead of Tervigons last time I talked about troops. I think it is time I covered other options.

Thinking outside of T6; Elites

By TheGraveMind

I know it's been a while since my last tyranid post. The reason? I've completely stopped playing tyranids. I've been busy with my Blood Angels, and they are serving me well as an assault force. Though there are times I do wish for more combat power like my Nids once had. I have been thinking about this one for a while now, and thinking about how, if ever, I want to remake my tyranid army. So today we will be looking at viable options to take over Hiveguard spam. My main goal from my series of articles is to expand past the 3 hiveguards, 2 terv, 2 tyranofex style of list. It does well, but it has no surprises and lacks in Close combat. Here are my past two articles T6 HQ, and T6 Troops.

Thinking outside of T6; HQ

By TheGraveMind

Last time I covered some of the options of troops. I'll come back to other options, but lets jump to the other important FOC; Hq. I've already covered Tervigons in the troops, and that is where they should be. Don't be afraid of taking one as HQ, but don't make it your only HQ, nor your only Terv. What I'm saying is, if you want two tervigons, and think you have enough troops, then feel free to take it as a secondary Hq. The main meat of this post is going to be Alpha warriors vs Tyrants.
