In addition to the controversial decision to start Sheilds in game 2, the Rays post season roster contains some slight surprises.

Particle Man Kalish Buries Rays [Sep. 7th, 2010|12:12 pm]

*facepalm*

With a Yankee's loss to the Fightin' Showalters earlier in the afternoon, the Rays had an another opportunity to gain some ground on the evil empire. Alas, it was not to be. Jeff Neimann came out like a wet dicknoodle without any control of his fastball. Niemann got just five outs, getting tagged for six runs, four hits and three walks. He lasted just 1.2 innings. Once again the Rays let a Particle Man in the form of Ryan Kalish beat them with a game-busting grand slam in the fourth. The Yankees remain 2.5 games ahead but more alarming is that it gives Boston hope for a wild card berth being only 6.5 back. Tonight's starter is David Price and he hasn't looked exactly stellar lately but statistically he is the ace of the staff. He has battled in those starts and I gotta believe the Red Sox's injury woes are bound to catch up to them eventually. At least the Boise State/ VT game was entertaining because neither the Rays or the Marlins games were fit for human consumption.

Helloooo Niemann [Sep. 6th, 2010|03:02 pm]

Jeff Niemann (10-5; 149.2 era) is slated to start tonight in an important game at Fenway Park His opponent will be Jon Lester (15-8, 3.27). Here's hoping that he has a better outing than his last two starts. Since coming off the DL, Niemann has struggled although he did look better in his last start until he appeared to hit the proverbial wall in the 6th inning. He lost both of those outings against the Angels and Blue Jays and allowed 17 earned runs on 15 hits over 8 1/3 innings. I'm sure Big Sleep knows the importance of this game and I hope he doesn't overpressure himself to overcome his past few outings.

Rocco Baldelli hit a 2 run homer today. It's good to see Rocco back, even though I doubt that he will ultimately have a substantial impact in the playoffs. Still, any offense is a help now to a team that seems to be unable to consistently get the baserunners in and he's only costing a ham sandwich.

Without Carlos in the line-up, the Rays seem completely flummoxed at the plate. Pena's plantar fasciitis will be on ongoing issue throuhout the playoffs.

A legitimate right handed bat would have been a better pick up than Chad Qualls. Did you see him regurgitate that lead today against the Fightin' Showalters in Baltimore? Hurry up and get well Grant Balfour.

Well, off to Fenway for an important 3.That's always a fistfight regardless of Boston's FEMA disaster status with injuries.

Rays are still in it. Yanks beat up on the sox and we win the next two, things will be really  interesting. Pena needs to come out of his funk. Its either sink or swim . Upton show signs of brilliance. Seems to me he has a hitch in his swing. Looks like they found Longoria's weak spot. Seems like he likes a ball low out of the zone.Hopper everything comes together for them, GO Rays. Should be a killer concert tonight with Big & rich.

Okay I was just wondering if you guys knew anymore players that were drafted by the rays who are currently playing in the majors, or still in baseball and played at least with the rays someimt ago.
All I got was
James Shields, Andy Sonannstine, David Price, Jeff Niemann, Jason Hammel, Dan Wheeler, Seth McClung for pitchers

Aubrey Huff, Toby Hall, BJ Upton, Delmon Young, Carl Crawford, Rocco Baldelli, Evan Longoria.
Thats all i got for hitters

Kazmir doesnt count because he was drafted by the Mets
Aki doesnt count because he was brought over from japan through a posting fee as a free agent.
Josh Hamilton doesnt count because even though he was drafted by the devil rays he never played a game in the majors with them.

Thanks
