FAQ

What is Bring Your Own Data (BYOD)?

Bring Your Own Data is a Ternary capability that allows you to ingest any technology spend or usage data and analyze it alongside native multi-cloud costs in a single platform.

What types of data can I ingest with BYOD?

With Ternary’s BYOD functionality you can ingest any cost or time-series dataset, including SaaS spend, AI usage, data center costs, internal platform charges, and revenue data, as long as it includes a start timestamp.

Does my data need to be in FOCUS format?

No. Ternary supports both FOCUS-formatted and non-FOCUS data. During setup, you can map your data to FOCUS-aligned fields or define custom dimensions and measures.

How is BYOD different from Ternary’s FOCUS support?

Ternary’s FOCUS support allows the platform to ingest native cloud billing exports in a standardized format. BYOD extends that same ingestion pipeline to any other cost or usage data, regardless of schema or source.

Can I use BYOD to analyze profitability and unit economics?

Yes. Ternary’s BYOD integration makes it possible to blend revenue data with cloud, SaaS, AI, and data center costs to analyze margins, unit economics, and total cost of ownership.
