Thus, constructing error-free sentences in writing is one of the biggest challenges encounted by most non-native speakers, and even university students are not an exception to this reality. This study aims at investigating various types of sentences produced by tertiary-level maritime students in a Sri Lankan university. The study was based on a narrative writing activity in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) module. The students were provided forty-five minutes to produce the piece of writing as an in-class activity on a topic relevant to their field visit to a port. This is a descriptive study based on the analysis of a small corpus of essays written by twenty maritime students, and a structural analysis of sentences was employed to examine the students’ writing. The use of mobile phones, especially smartphones with their sophisticated applications including ... more The use of mobile phones, especially smartphones with their sophisticated applications including social media is no more a sign of one's standard of life resembling his/her wealth or richness, but an indispensable part of most people's lives. It is not an exaggeration to mention that if a person who uses a smartphone forgets to carry it with him/her for a day, that person would feel paralyzed and inactive the whole day. Many individuals have now learnt to live without people around them, but not the smartphone. While it brings several advantages to the human being, its influence on children is mostly undesired in many aspects, especially with regard to morality and health. Child psychologists, paediatricians and educationists have expressed their concerns over this intruder device in children's naturally innocent lives. Thus, this paper aims to discuss the negative impacts of the use of mobile platforms among youngsters. The study was conducted using published material including books, reports and research papers. Findings show that timely action needs to be taken before it becomes too late. The recommendations of experts include parental control over the use of mobile platforms and social media.

However, as a term, it remains hindered as of varied uses and meanings, it has been divided according to its educational usability. It has been dealt with in terms of merits and demerits to validate its usefulness by offering the proof to encourage those specialized in education as well as entertainment. In this paper, a general overview of gamification and in education respectively (i.e. learning and teaching) with a glimpse from empirical studies. Followed by an examining of its contributions for a better improvement in the educational process in general. This articles gives a general description overview on the use of gamification in understanding its applicable usefulness in the field of education due to its feature of edutainment. It outlines gamification in both theory and action, with an emphasis on empirical side in relation with context and purpose and context. Furthermore, it shows that gamification as a conceptualized concept is emerging in the field of education to meet the expected outcomes. A discussion on the probability of the way gamification to be more useful as a subdivision to improve the systems of interaction of user experience by using gamified design. The paper concludes with suggestions of nonstop investigations of gamified applications and its effectiveness.

As a result, the present study seeks to understand the reasons for using social media during the COVID 19 pandemic by screening various topics and assessing the impact of misinformation on social media, primarily psychological and mental effects. The study utilized a quantitative research design. Participants were individuals between the age of twenty and fifty. Data was collected using a questionnaire shared online to the 360 participants. The studies' responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the arithmetic percentage method using graphs and figures. It also illustrates the issues of language acquisition Chomsky argued which could not be supported by behaviourist theories and shows how Chomsky proposed a solution to this problem through his theoretical model of universal grammar. The next part outlines this theory’s key tenets, arguing that these principles must be an innate endowment of the human mind. Moreover, the study illustrates specific examples of grammatical phenomena that universal grammar seeks to explain. Lastly, it shows that certain distinct grammatical features are linked and that these connections can be explained within the Universal Grammar theoretical framework.
