To achieve the goal of the study, the fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) was employed taking the period 1980–2008. The results show that while 84% of the countries have a positive long run relationship between urbanization, energy consumption, and carbon dioxide emission, only 16% the countries have mixed results. Some countries have a negative long run relationship and others, especially low income countries have no relationship between urbanization, energy consumption, and carbon dioxide emission. Furthermore, a one way long run relationship between energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission and urbanization was found in a number of countries while a one way long run relationship between urbanization and energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission was found in other countries.► Urbanization, energy consumption and CO2 emission relationship is investigated. ► The Fully Modified OLS was employed taking the period 1980–2008. ► 84% of the countries have a positive long run relationship between the variables.

Applying the panel data technique, this paper uses related observations from 16 emerging economies to investigate the relationships between FDI and FREI. Our analysis shows that countries with higher level of FDI in other sectors attract greater amounts of FREI.

Although this sector had an increasing trend over the past two decades, the growth rate of residential construction has been very volatile. The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate those factors contributing to this fluctuation over the 1991:Q2-2008:Q4. By applying cointegration approach, the empirical results show that housing prices, construction costs, GDP and gold prices are important factors to predict changes in the level of residential construction in Iran.

However, the published daily data on Tehran’s industry stock indices since 2005 make such a study possible. Therefore, our study is considered very beneficial as it provides insights regarding information transmission and volatility estimation of oil and gas prices and Iranian industry equity returns. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of oil and gas prices on Iranian industry stock returns. To this end, we analyze 35 Iranian industry indices for the period from January 2005 to March 2010. Based on the multifactor model and using time-series regressions, our findings indicate that oil prices are an important determinant of returns in the banks, credit and other financial institutions, basic metals, electric machinery and apparatus and refined petroleum products and nuclear fuel industries. The findings also suggest that gas price movements do not seem to play a role for Iranian industry stock returns except for motor vehicles and auto parts industry. Moreover, consistent with the capital asset pricing model (CAPM), the market portfolio is a significant pricing factor in most of the (studied) industry stock returns. The results of this study help domestic and potential foreign investors to understand the effect of energy price changes on Iranian industry stock returns in order to manage their portfolios effectively.

The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the pattern of causality between foreign real estate investment and tourism, within the context of Iranian investment in Dubai real estate sector (IIDRE) and Iranian tourism in Dubai. By applying multivariate cointegration approach, the findings indicate that in the long-run the causation runs from tourism to IIDRE. It means that accumulation of Iranian knowledge about attractiveness of Dubai as a holiday destiny is an important factor explaining IIDRE. The results also suggest that there is a bidirectional short-run causal relationship between these variables. The results have some important implications for Iranian and Dubai policymakers.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of Iranian investment in Dubai's real estate sector (IIDRE) over the period 2000:Q1-2008:Q1. Using a time-series regression analysis, the empirical results reveal that Iran's external conflicts, bilateral trade between Iran and Dubai and Iranian wealth could contribute positively to the expansion of IIDRE. In addition, we find that returns from Iran's stock market and relative economic growth are not significant determinants of IIDRE.
