Samples were stored for a minimum of 8 days inside incubators set at 15°C, 25°C, or 35°C at different relative humidities, ranging from 16% to 88%. Equilibrium moisture content (EMC) data were fitted with the Henderson model and modified versions of the Chung-Pfost, Guggenheim-Anderson-deBoer (GAB), Halsey, Henderson, and Oswin models. The modified GAB model (R 2 = 0.99; SE = 0.58% d.b.) followed by the modified Henderson model (R 2 = 0.99; SE = 0.68% d.b.) produced randomized residuals and the best fit for milled switchgrass. The results have practical applications in the handling, drying, storage, and transportation of switchgrass to ensure that quality deterioration and spoilage by microorganisms are minimized.

The tarragon leaves were dried at air temperatures ranging from 40 to 90 • C. The drying stopped when the moisture content of the samples reached 10% or for some of the treatments reached 7, 20 and 30%. The essential oil of the fresh and dried leaves was isolated by hydrodistillation and analysed by capillary gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The decrease of oil during the drying process was highest at 60 • C drying temperature. For French tarragon the decrease in the amount of oil was significantly lower at 90 • C. The effect of the relative humidity of the drying air at each temperature was not significant. The main compounds were estragole in French tarragon (69%) and sabinene in Russian tarragon (40%). The drying process changed the relative percentage of the constituents in the oil; for instance, the relative percentages of estragole decreased and sabinene increased in French tarragon.

The higher the depth causes the greater amount of soil entering to harvesting system. A proper depth control leads to optimize energy consumption. A four-bar mechanism was used in order to move the blade of the machine and to control the operation depth while a DC electrical motor provided the movement of the blade. The four-bar mechanism consisted of a power screw, linkage bars, moveable pin and a blade. A control system was used to follow the uneven ground surface and control the displacement of the blade by sending commands to the DC electrical motor. The tests were carried out in laboratory on artificial uneven ground in sinuous curves as well as square and triangle shapes. The displacement of the blade was recorded by a digital camera and converted to image and analyzed using Matlab software. All the tests were replicated three times. The photo sensor responded better than the capacitive sensor for all obstacle shapes.

Dairy cattle manure, sieved by a two-level size of 30 and 50, were used to make pellets by a hydraulic press with mold diameter of 6 mm, in five moisture levels of 15%, 17.5%, 20%, 22.5% and 25% and two pressure levels of 100 and 150 MPa. The results of the tests were analyzed using Excel and MATLAB softwares. Results showed that the compression energy as well as friction energy of size 30 increased with the increasing moisture content from 15% to 20%, and decreased with the increasing moisture content from 20% to 25%, and both are under pressure levels of 100 and 150 MPa. The compression energy and friction energy of the size 50 decreased with the increasing moisture content for both pressure levels of 100 and 150 MPa. The energy consumption of compression was found to be greater at the pressure of 150 MPa than that of 100 MPa. The greater amount of energ...

The experiments were carried out at the air velocities of 0.5 and 1.0 m s-1 and thicknesses of 3, 5 and 7 mm. In order to find the most suitable form of thin layer drying model, nine different mathematical drying models were fitted to the experimental data to determine the pertinent coefficients of each model. The goodness of the fit was determined by calculating and comparing the values of the correlation coefficient (R^2 ) Root mean square error (RMSE) and chi-square (χ^2) for all models. The Page model with R^2=0.9974 ,χ^2=0.01351 , RMSE=0.002 showed the best fit.

The converter consists of three similar four-bar linkages, which the follower link oscillates by complete rotation of the crank link. A one-way cam clutch bearing was installed on the output shaft for each mechanism to transfer the rotation at one dirction. The three mechanisms are located on unique input and output shafts with 120 degree difference in phases to guarantee continuous rotation at output shaft. The length of the follower link is changeable while the lengths of the other links are fixed to vary the rotation ratio of input and output shafts. The relevant lengths of the links were found to be 2.5 cm for crank, 8 cm for coupler link and 10 cm for ground link while the length of rocker is variable from 5 to 12 cm. The converter locates between the career wheel and the metering system to provide different rotations of the meter...

An amount of rice straw was grinded in each test and the particle size of grinded rice straw was determined. A watt metering system was used to measure the energy consumption of grinding of grinding for each test. The highest specific energy consumption was 32.46kWh.t -1 for hammer mill screen size of 2mm at 12 % (w.b) moisture content. The hammer mill screen size was negatively connected with specific energy consumption. Therefore, the larger the hammer mill screen size, use less the specific energy consumption. The particle size was normally distributed for the rice straw grinded by at 2 and 4 mm hammer mill screen sizes. The grinds from screen size of 8 mm had a large size distribution with a geometric mean particle diameter of 1.04 mm.

The experimental moisture ratios of the samples were fitted to nine drying models. The drying experiments were carried out on tomato slices with thicknesses of 3, 5 and 7 mm at the air velocities of 0.5 and 1 m s -1 . The effect of drying thickness and air velocity on the drying time was evaluated. The mathematical models were tested with the drying behavior of tomato slices in the laboratory solar dryer. The coefficients of the models were determined by multiple regression method in three spaces (solar dryer, shadow, open sun drying) to find out the most suitable moisture ratio model. The Page model was found as the best model based on statistical parameters of R 2 , RMSE and χ 2 . The Page model is applicable to predict moisture content of tomato slices during solar drying of tomato slices.
