Gloriously Hair-Free for the Summer!

We're going to the Maldives!! XDDD I cannot contain my excitement.

I've a few weeks to get my (vanity) act together. I've got my microblading and lip tattoo done, next on the list is: laser hair removal.

I've shopped for a few clinics, but I really want something that I can use on the long run and not just a one-off. (Plus, these salons as expensive AF)

My sister has the LumaRx IPL hair removal device and it works pretty well but I want one of my own.

I did my research and a strong candidate is the Tria Laser Hair Removal. My hair is pretty thick in some areas and I feel safer investing in a device with a stronger "power." It's the only one that uses true laser technology and not IPL or light technology like the others.

I'm also going to only use it on my underarms and bikini area so I'm cool with the small window. I've seen some of the video reviews too, and it's all pretty positive so far.

I'll update this post soon with results. Hopefully, it's all good!

Permanent Makeup: Brows aka Microblading

Continuing my permanent makeup series, I’ll be diving into permanent brows or what’s more famously called, “Microblading” of “3D Eyebrow Shading”.

This is a bit more like traditional tattooing, wherein the technique uses tiny needles to file in pigments into the skin.

I already have lash extensions so this is the one I’m looking forward the most to getting done. I look completely different with and without brows so I’m never without them when I go out. The problem is it takes forever to get just right, so I’ll always waste a lot of time perfecting it before I’m out the door. And collectively, these are hours of my life I’d like to get back. (Or not waste in the future)

I’ve shopped around in different clinics and the procedure is more or less the same:

  1. They style your brows first so you could see the final look

  2. Once approved, they put on a numbing cream and wait for half and hour

  3. Microblading session

The entire process takes about one to two hours.

The initial results would be a very dark stain for about 3-5 days until the top ink wears off. It would look normal thereafter.

You’re not supposed to touch or peel it, even though it might itch (I have a feeling it will, like hell). They’ll also give you an antibacterial ointment to use to avoid any skin infection (Yikes!)

You’ll need to get two-touch ups and some clinics offer these as a package.

Unlike a permanent tattoo, this will last you about 2-5 years.

Procedures in the US can cost you around $400-$800 dollars.Z

Permanent Makeup: Lips

We moisturize them, we buff them, and we paint them with gloss. They frame our words and ease us into our most intimate moments. It’s one of our most important assets and we maximize them with a heap of products that range from a dollar to hundreds. But what if we can cut the maintenance down to size?

One of most popular cosmetic procedure nowadays does exactly just that—semi-permanent lip tattoos. The results offer hassle-free mornings and less maintenance during outings. It’s especially beneficial for those who don’t have time between work and everything else that goes on through the day. The idea of Instagram-ready “woke up like this” is very appealing to a lot of women, old and mature. There’s also the lot who just wants a more defined lip to make it fuller.

When performed by a trained aesthetician, it should be proportional to the client’s facial proportions and symmetry. The right lip tattoo can really transform and enhance one’s features. (See: Kylie Jenner!)

Cosmetic lip tattoo uses pigment, rather than ink, unlike regular tattoos. As it’s semi-permanent, it also won’t last forever. Depending on the facial area and other factors, permanent makeup can last several years.

Lip Tattooing Techniques

  1. Lip Liner – Ideal for delicate definition. It can correct uneven lips and add more shape as necessary. The look comes up fuller and classically defined.

  2. Lip Blend – Best for small or uneven lips, and discolored edges. It helps with volume and provides a softer, redder shade.

  3. Full Lip – The ultimate treatment to achieve full and luscious lips. This is as effective as lipsticks so no more touch ups! There’s a wide range to choose from, from light pink to vampy dark shades.

Did You Know?

  • The skin of our lips is very thin compared to our facial skin. The skin on our face has 3-5 cellular layers, while facial skin has up to 16 layers.

  • Our lips are red because the skin on our lips is thin, making the blood vessels more evident. People with darker lips just have more melanin in them.

  • The lips and tongue have the most concentration of nerves in the human body. It varies from person to person, but nerve endings are around 10,000. This makes the lips an erogenous zone, making kissing a crucial part of intimacy.

  • Lip skin has no sweat glands or hair. This means that it doesn’t have the usual layer of protection like sweat and body oil that deters bacteria. This, along with saliva, makes lips dry easier.

  • In some cultures, a woman’s lips are covered or veiled because of its similarities to the vulva. (Seriously though? This infringes on women’s rights in more ways than one. It’s not our responsibility to stop men from being perverts, it’s a man’s responsibility to NOT act on their perversions.)
