Twin Cities Angler |
[11 Feb 2010|01:08am] |
Hope I'm not misusing this community, but I am starting a new LJ community relevant to residents of the Twin Cities with an interest in fishing: tcangler Twin Cities Angler. I'm running this in tandem with a Yahoo group, and we will be having meetup events at different lakes around the twin cities to try and catch some fish, tell stories, and otherwise socialize.
I know late winter is a bad time to start a group like this as the ice will become unsafe in a matter of weeks; and we begin the long process of melting the ice and awaiting cabin fever, but hey. If this is something that interests you, I encourage people to join. The Yahoo group will be the primary source of communication but I welcome people to talk shop or share spots, photos, whatever on the LJ community as well.

I'm going to be out with a friend whom I haven't seen in a while tonight, and am wondering what is out there for people to do after 9PM on a Friday night, aside from Bars and Restaurants? Any advice?

Go See REPO! This Weekend |
[07 Nov 2008|08:28am] |
REPO! A Genetic Opera begins its brief run at the Lagoon theater today (1320 Lagoon Avenue, Minneapolis (612) 825-6006). The movie features Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas, Romeo + Juliet, Nixon, etc.), Alexa Vega (Spy Kids), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles - Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects), OhGr (Skinny Puppy), Sarah Brightman (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s muse and ex-wife) and in a brilliant bit of stunt casting Paris Hilton plays a plastic surgery addict who grows progressively more garish as the film moves along.
The movie features a stunning soundtrack that's a mixture of operatic flourishes and grinding Industrial rock. Some of the musicians who contributed to the score are Richard Patrick (Filter), Steven Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), Shawn “Clown” Crahan (Slipknot), Ray Luzier (Army of Anyone), Brian Young (David Lee Roth’s band), Richard Fortus (Guns n’ Roses), Sonny Moore (First to Last), David J and Daniel Ash (Bauhaus/Love and Rockets), Blasko (Ozzy Osborne, White Zombie), Tommy Clefetus (Rob Zombie’s band), Melora Creager (Rasputina) and Poe.
The story is set in a not-so-distant future, in which a worldwide epidemic of organ failures has devastated the planet while a biotech company known as GeneCo offers organ transplants for a price. Those who miss their payments to the company are consequently scheduled for repossession of their organs by the “Repo Man.”
This is a wildly original flick you simply must see. However, Lionsgate pulled the ad financing believing this movie had no audience. If we can put up good numbers this weekend and show the studio this is something we would be interested in seeing they'll give it an extended run. And considering how miserable the weather is what better way to spend it than at the theater with a bucket of popcorn watching a cool movie?
Showtimes are 2:40, 5:00, 7:30, 9:55. Try to make it out to this, please. If not tonight then tomorrow. Even Sunday would help. Set aside a couple hours for some fun this weekend. Tell your friends, your coworkers, your family about it. Repost this everywhere.

SmartAlix at darktwincities |
[17 Oct 2007|11:58pm] |
The success of the first six months of Darktwincities.com has been more than satisfying, and we're greatful so many have visited, patronized and contributed to our site. We have a number of plans for expansion in the coming months which include a page dedicated to interviewing musical acts, artists and local luminaries, the potentiality of a regular DTC podcast, a page devoted to local retail outlets and those that offer services relevant to the needs of the community, and many more ideas that have been suggested by a variety of people involved in the site. Things are looking rather exciting for us as we move ahead.
For now, we would like to take the opportunity to promote our most recent venture. We have acquired a brilliant young ingenue with an extensive background in the medical field who just happens to have dated most every psycho in the Twin Cities area. Her education, street smarts and extensive experience, coupled with her acerbic wit, make her the perfect candidate for our own version of the "advice column." SmartAlix will be premiering soon on Darktwincities.com, but we need inquiries to get us started.
Advice columns are, admittedly, ridiculous space-fillers on the Variety pages of most periodicals. They're a kind of literary train wreck at which many can't help but stop to gawk. We are aggressively soliciting your problems, concerns and assorted muck about which people are sick of hearing you whine. SmartAlix is ready to tackle any problem you have, be it medical, emotional, psychological, or...well, what else is there? Surprise us.
Send emails to [email protected]. Columns will begin appearing as soon as we have enough submissions. We guarantee it will be an interesting and entertaining read. Hell, it might even be educational, to some extent. We look forward to hearing from you.
