What’s New in TaxoPress in February?
TaxoPress 3.31 is available now. The Free version is available from the WordPress plugin directory and TaxoPress members can download the Pro version from this website.
We’ve started 2025 by building the features that are most requested by TaxoPress users.
In this version of TaxoPress, you get more control over the “Category” and “Tags” boxes that appear when users are writing posts.
You’ll also be able to link terms to any URL you want.
There’s a lot more in this latest release, all requested by customers like you.

Create terms from the TaxoPress metabox
This feature builds on our most recent release which allows you to replace your Tags and Categories metaboxes.
It’s now possible to create terms directly from the TaxoPress metabox. In the screenshot below, you can see the new “Create Terms” tab. This is going to be the building block for several cool new features including these:
- You will be able to choose which user roles can add terms.
- You’ll be able to prevent some terms from being added, or terms with certain characters or lengths. For example, you’ll be able to block characters such as $%&*@ from being used, or terms longer than 20 characters.

Set a Custom URL for Auto Links
You can now choose any URL to use with the Auto Links feature.
By default, Auto Links can automatically add links to your terms when they’re inside posts. These links will go to the archive page for that term. Those archive pages are located at URLs like this: /tag/term/ or /category/wordpress/
Now you can choose any destination URL you want. Here’s a comparison:
- Term: WordPress
- Default link: https://taxopress.com/tag/wordpress
- Custom URL link: https://wordpress.org
This screenshot shows the “Custom URL” field where you can add your choice of URL.

Show only Parent or Child Terms
The “Terms Display” feature allows you to create a customizable display of all the terms in one taxonomy. If your terms are organize into a hierarchy (Categories is a good example of this) you can now display only specific parent and child terms.
Let’s see an example of his this works. In the screenshot below, there is a parent category called “Fruit” with several child categories.

In the “Terms Display” area, you will now see a “Parent Term” option. You can select the parent term you want to use. For this example, I’ve chosen “Fruit”. The result will be that only “Fruit”, “Coconut”, “Banana”, and “Apple” will show. All of the categories will be hidden.

Allow multiple Auto Terms to be scheduled
You can now schedule more than one setup of the Auto Terms feature. For example, you may have one setup for Posts, one for Pages, and another for WooCommerce products. You can now use the “Schedule” feature to run all of those every hour, or every day. The screenshot below shows that new setting.

Copy Terms
There’s now a “Copy” button on the “Terms” screen. With one click, you can duplicate any term. The copy of your term will be attached to all the same posts as the original term.
