I found this online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, through a post on </a></b></a>
audiography.
It's a dangerously addictive place. Obviously the original link
was music-based, seeing as it was a music community, but I've been
poking around in there for a good oh, hour or longer now LOL while I
sort of watched Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone on TV.
Audiography's theme for the week is post-rock, which fortunately no one else seemed to know either lol but the explanation was expanded to describe noise-rock, space rock, and math rock as sub-genres. (Yes, I'm still fairly lost with those terms, too.) I have issues with "math" and "rock" being at all associated, I must say. That just seems like the weirdest combination ever. It's like the genre punk-pop, which is the most ridiculous oxymoron I've heard in years. I tend to pay little attention to musical labelling in any case. I like what I like and if I want to make a playlist that has, like, Atreyu beside the Backstreet Boys or something, I bloody well will. What music is called is irrelevant; all that matters is what it means and whether it's any good. *thinks* Although offhand, I don't think I actually have any BSB MP3s, lol.
I did find two things on Wikipedia that had me laughing. First was that there was a French Canadian post-rock band at one time called Destroyalldreamers. This made me giggle. Then, there was the article on moshing. Specifically, the set of 6 rules. The first 4 are fairly common sense, but I read 5 and 6 and I was *dying*. :D
Throw them back! ROTFLMAO! God, I could so hear Monty Python in my head there. But see, it's the whole elbows thing where I get into trouble, because most guys' elbows are like level with my throat or higher LOL. But damn, that was funny.
And I'm so excited by another find that I found through Wikipedia!!! Someone hasn't waited for the North America release and has the video for Wake Me Up When September Ends up on her site, Billie Joe [dot] com. I haven't watched it yet; I'm kind of savouring the knowledge that it's there for the moment, lol. I'll prolly watch it later tonight, as it does seem to have been somewhat of a video weekend. I also found out that American Idiot is being turned into a movie next year, and there may be a "Making of" documentary about the album since the recording process was actually filmed. Not quite sure how I feel about the movie thing; it could go either way, I suppose, although it sounds like GD has final veto power. And I know *I've* thought it would be interesting to flesh out the storyline, so it doesn't really surprise me that someone else would want to tackle that. But it just seems a little weird for whatever reason. I'd love to see the docu, though.
I really should go do something productive, like tidy and put away all the crap that seems to accumulate weekly around my computer area. It's a frigging magnet, I swear.
