I'm told it's supposed to have been a 6 hour drive between my place and Jeff's. I made it there in 5, and back in just over 4. Hmmm. *laughs* Skimmed through my non-comm f-list right quickly so I'm more or less caught up but didn't take time for comments mostly (skipped the comms altogether -
jetblackmirror, I will definitely be depending on your recs this week. :)), and I've taken care of the one thing that was mentioned to me. *MWAH* to you all in lieu. :-)
Had an AWESOME time. I believe I took all of two pictures, though, so I guess I won't be getting that film developed for a while! I met her other best friend and now I understand exactly why her sig. other kept calling me her Halifax Jeannie. Hee! OMFG the trouble the three of us could get into. I am relatively adventurous on my own, but there are certain people that I simply click with, with whom I can get into deep shit indeed. Jeff is definitely one of those people, waaaaay more so than any of my younger friends. :D We had so much fun just hanging out and chatting at Jeannie's.
The strangest and most amusing part, though, was that her 20-y-o son fronts a pop-punk/emo/rock band that literally just finished recording the master for their first proper CD. They aren't even finished mixing the master into the final product yet, but we got to listen to some of the songs and they're actually pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised. It was also just very cool to be able to listen to a band's brand new master recordings. I think it would have been an automatic musicgasm even if I hadn't liked them, but I did. Heh and there was also that whole element of "should we be here?" b/c we'd been up in the dining room while he and his friends had been down in his space, and then they all went out clubbing or w/e around midnight and Jeannie was so excited about the music that she took us downstairs and played the songs for us. *giggles* I'd been thinking up till then (Friday night) that Saint John didn't have much of an alternative population b/c I hadn't seen anyone at all really that didn't look, well, on the redneck side, and was feeling more sticking-out-ish than usual. But apparently that's b/c they all hang out at the best friend of my best friend's house. *sporfle* How's that for irony?!?
The band, btw, is 16th Avenue, and they have a purevolume site here. The recordings on it are pretty low quality but you can get some idea of their sound. Obviously the pro-recorded songs I heard sound hella better. :-)
Quoi d'autre? I enjoyed visiting Saint John, but it was not a city that spoke to me; I couldn't live there. I think that instead of scratching the itch, this whole trip intensified it instead. God, I was SO tempted to go the other direction and head down to Boston. Or anywhere, really, but I know people in Boston and would have somewhere to sleep there LOL. ;-) Coming home was like...I don't know. Wicked anticlimactic and not having that sense of, "Oh, it was nice to be away but it's good to be home" that it usually does. :-/ Gah.
I didn't get as antsy as I thought about having absolutely zero 'net access, possibly b/c I whipped through some of Jeff's books instead, like my pre-'net addiction days, lol. But ohhhhhh was it ever nice to sign into my email today. Hee. Yes, I am a total dork and I do not care. *hugs computer* I did realise, though, that I also need to come up with a way to obtain a laptop, because I cannot go without a computer when I go wherever (prolly UK), but taking my desktop would be exceedingly difficult and prolly more expensive than it'd be worth, considering that I could put that money towards something useful like a laptop. I don't know. *le sigh* *must get life in order SOON dammitall*
And that's all you're getting, b/c I hadn't had any intentions of getting all contemplative and emo on y'all and there I went rambling. :D Ah well.
