I was going to make a post listing things wot are made of win (duh) but as it's thundering rather insistently outside I think I shall cut it short and just point at the tags. :D Them things is made of win right now. I need to go to bed in a minute anyway but what prompted said list was that I was walking to work this morning, kinda bouncy despite it being a Monday - and a statutory holiday in North America, I can't remember the last time I actually worked on Labour Day - and the first of September, usually one of my favourite months, and I was listening to my iPod and bopping along and knowing that looking_spiffy (*mwah*) would shortly be getting us Metallica tickets for the gig on the 15th for five quid apiece (I know!), which day I already have off specifically to go to that because they gave just enough advance notice to book the day, and I just had Reading, and there's all sorts of other stuff coming up, and oh_johnny_ and I had a meta-comment-porn explosion, and as of Wednesday it will be five months since I left home and you know what? I'm really fucking happy. ♥

It's edged into the eleventh, but I'm still up so it's still Saturday night and therefore Saturday marks one month that I've been in England. (Minus, obviously, the days in Spain. For which I now have my pictures sorted but I'm not done with the write-up yet.) I present a list o'stuff, because it is three o'clock in the morning and my brain is just about comatose but I wanted to post.

-queue, quid, loo, not fussed, not bothered, not arsed, trousers, handbag, football, relegated, premier vs. championship vs. 1 vs. 2, post, mince, minge, hire (in the sense of rent, like at Blockbuster), and more I can't think of this second = personal lexicographical adjustments/acquisitions. I've always used "proper" in the British sense; gotten called on it not being American enough on fic before, in fact. *g*
-thank god the money went decimal. £2 coins are bicoloured like toonies, and similarly-sized. £1 coins are gold like loonies, but small; however, the edges are heavily etched. Pence(/pennies) are copper the world over, it seems. 2p are freaking large coins. 5p are the size of Canadian dimes and 10p are the size of Canadian quarters. 20p are octagonal (possibly >8 sides but I ain't pulling one out to check - it's an -agonal, anyway). £5 < £10 < £20 in physical size as well as denomination. I can now locate all of these things in my wallet with little difficulty.
-the cheese is good. This is important. So are the multigrain Cheerios.
-the @ and " are reversed on a British keyboard. Also, the # and ~ are moved to the key cradled in the L of the enter key, and I don't recall where the backslash ends up (there's a different symbol replacing the tilde in the top left key); the £ is on the 3. It's really just the " that fucks up my typing, though.
-bank accounts tend to be simpler to open when you own property, even if it's a partial-own in a different country.
-still not thinking much about my cat because it's the one thing guaranteed to make me start to cry; even reading my mom's emails is hard sometimes. Everyone else's pets are lovely, and truthfully far more attentive than Nibbs has ever been, but they're not mine. I miss him. And my dad, who does not email and thus communicates through my mom, which is insufficient contact to feel like I've actually talked to him.
-which reminds me, not receiving replies in some form to my sent emails annoys me.
-walking lots more is good, even on days when my sciatica disagrees with me. The rest of me feels better.
-cooking with gas-powered appliances is a bit of a learning curve for someone who's always had electric.
-Magners cider is a good thing.
-so is Costa coffee.
-I'm beginning to think everybody lied to me about all the British rain I haven't seen. I brought a pocket-sized umbrella and everything, and I have used it twice.

The Roswell Chatathon has been a lot of fun today. Momentary sour note for me, privately, due to someone who managed to be both nose-in-the-air and obsequious all at once, and was annoying the everloving daylights out of me. I chose to let the incredibly condescending comment they made to me slide on the grounds that they are currently far more invested in the fandom than I am, and therefore I both don't want to disturb that, and don't care enough to expend the effort. Aside from that one person, however, it's been so awesome to reconnect with so many people that I used to know, and spend some quality chatting time with the ones that I still know but don't necessarily get to see much of all the time. It's been the best kind of trip down memory lane. ♥

(Go, brain: I typed Matthew instead of mattress in my location the first time. LOL)

Things in point form.

~~I woke up exactly one minute before my alarm went off this morning. It allowed me to turn it off and finish listening to the song before getting up, instead of the grate of the CD going off in order for the buzzer to sound. It was much nicer that way.

~~I also had it set for the last possible minute to leave myself just enough time to get ready and get out the door, which I rarely do anymore. I have acquired the habit over the last few weeks of dragging myself out of bed at least a half hour earlier than I used to. It felt kinda strange not to do that or spend any time writing this morning.

~~Alas, this auspicious beginning to the day didn't mean a thing b/c apparently Hell Day decided to just be late to the party at work today. If I heard one more person say my name in that "I need to ask you a question" tone, they will be roundly SMACKED. Oy. My poor manager was either in meetings or dealing with this big mess today and her assistant had a vacation day, so that left guess who as the go-to? Right. Argh.

~~We discovered that we ran out of film in the bad way, of course, when my dad tried to take a picture of THE DEER that was in our backyard at six o'clock this morning!!! Holy shit, dude. A DEER. Apparently they're being driven out of the woods because the blackflies are so damn bad this year. :-( Although I have to admit, that made me giggle b/c my backyard is not exactly an anti-blackfly haven ow. I wish I would have seen it; it's been a really long time since I've seen a deer that close up.

~~I was talking about my car today and I realised that as of next month, I will have had it for six years. That's slightly longer than any of my meaningful, ongoing friendships. *dies* Also, that means that the extended warranty runs out a month from today! *squeak* And July 8th would have been the day that I would have left to drive to Ontario when I'd still planned on going. Tempting fate much there??? Jeez.

~~I have boatloads o'people to interview so it's going to take me a little time to get around to posting questions for all y'all. Obviously I answer in ludicrous detail but I also at least try to come up with good questions so be patient with me. *smooches*

~~I really wish it were a real festival!

~~I've spent waaaaaay too much mental time in hotels in recent weeks. WAY too much time. lol

~~The kickass red extensions in looking_spiffy's hair have served as a, er, vivid reminder *groaaaan* that I need to redo my streaks. (And get my hair cut, actually, as my bangs are at that grrr stage.) It looks sort of Victorian roses right now. :-/ Interesting, to be sure, but not so much what I want it to look like.

~~Porn is fun.

That is all.
