Hence, a study was conducted to assess the status of the uterus of she-buffaloes using endometrial cytology. Uterine endometrial smears prepared from uterine luminal fluid by gently touching the uterine surface of 54 reproductive tracts collected from a slaughterhouse and four uterine biopsy imprints of she-buffaloes were utilized for the study. Uterine endometrial smears and uterine biopsy imprints were stained with Leishman-Giemsa stain. The differential counts for epithelial cells, lymphocyte, neutrophil and monocyte for 23 cases of normal endometrium were 99.73 (97-100), 0.26 (1-3), 0 and 0 percent respectively. In 29 cases of subacute nonsuppurative endometritis, the differential counts were 80.45 (44-100), 4.97 (0-45), 4.03 (1-54) and 0 percent for epithelial cell, lymphocyte, neutrophil and monocyte, respectively. In two cases of subacute non-suppurative metritis, the differential counts were 99 (98-100), 1 (0-2), ...

Organisms indistinguishable from Blastocystis sp. were identified in the Giemsa stained intestinal scrapings collected from carcasses of piglet and poultry that were brought for necropsy to the Central University Laboratory, Chennai. The 'central vacuole forms' of the parasite, with number of nuclei ranging from 1 to 12 were identified. The intensity of infection was low, with less than one organism per oil immersion field, indicating that their presence was unconnected to the cause of death. Caecal scraping was found to be more ideal than duodenal scraping for the diagnosis of Blastocystis, and can be a potential specimen for definitive diagnosis. Identical organisms were also detected in the dung samples of a buffalo calf which showed clinical signs of diarrhoea The presence of Blastocystis in food animals acquires publ...

Leptospirosis was detected in 88 percent of 125 sera samples tested. The most prevalent serogroup observed was Pomona (54.4 percent). Highest titre of 6400 was detected with the serogroup Pomona (0.4 percent).

Asymptomatic presence of Cysticercus tenuicollis, metacestode of Taenia hydatigena, in the peritoneal cavities of sheep, was encountered during necropsy. Deaths in lambs due to peracute and subacute hepatitis cysticercosa were recorded. The fact that C. tenuicollis lacks the characteristic armed rostellum during the early stages should be taken into account during diagnosis of peracute cysticercosis. During the lean months of winter, overwhelming chronic infection with 53 cysts of C. tenuicollis resulted in death of a hogget. Non-viable, calcified cysts, apparently those of C. ovis (intermediate stage of T. ovis), were documented in the heart muscles of four ewes. Death following cerebral signs of a ewe was attributed to the presence of a single Coenurus cerebralis cyst (larval stage of T. multiceps) in the occipital region of the cranial cavity. The presence of Coenuru...
