Hench Goons and Updated Uniforms

These are Warblade Minatures Space Enforcers Corps metal minis. I painted them using a similar color scheme to the one they used in the image for the Kickstarter as I didn't have a better one in mind. I think they look good as a squad of hench goons and leader for some evil bad guy or evil organization of some kind. Heavily armored, so they can probably shrug off hits, but probably slow moving and probably not a good range of vision with those silly helmets. ha ha

Space Mage Reaper plastic mini. I tried to paint the sword as a laser sword or power sword of some kind (definitely not a light saber).

I decided to darken up this operative mini for dark ops, with a green wash; previously posted without the dark wash here: https://talesofmirth.blogspot.com/2026/01/a-few-more-sci-fi-minis.html

I've been rebasing some of my sci-fi minis onto smaller bases to be more consistent. At least ones where that's possible. I've left space orcs on larger bases as they tend to fit better on the larger bases. Anyway, while doing that with these troopers I also decided to repaint parts of them. I had originally painted them mostly light gray. I decided to make them a little more colorful and went with a color scheme based on 19th century Colonial British infantry, with red shirts/tunics and blue trousers, with white helmets. I like that color scheme better. You can see how they looked previously in the post here: https://talesofmirth.blogspot.com/2019/07/spaceship-troopers.html

Witches and Others

My latest batch of minis. These are an eclectic mix.

Two green-skinned witches from Northumbrian Tin Soldier. They make me think of Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax from Terry Pratchett's Discworld stories.

Three witch sisters, obviously based on the characters from the Hocus Pocus movie, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. Also from Northumbrian Tin Soldier.

A goatman, large goofy bat (maybe a vampire in bat form?), both from Northumbrian Tin Soldier. And a treasure chest mimic from Super Dungeon Explore.

A steampunk lady from Reaper, and a couple of cats whose source I have forgotten.

Creatures, Mostly Great

Finally got around to painting these beasts I have had for I don't know how long.

First some dinosaurs (from Hasslefree, if I recall correctly). Trying to come up with various color schemes so all of my dinos aren't just a mass of grays and browns.

Some sort of raptor-like dino

A parasaurolophus

A sabertooth cat (from Reaper, I believe)

A giant bat (also from Reaper). This is huge, with a wingspan of something like 20 feet in scale. Also quite hefty, as like the rest of these animals it is solid metal.

Retro Future

Most of the following miniatures are from Hydra Miniatures Retro sci-fi line.

A couple of businessmen or office workers

Two generic civilians

A trio of technicians or maintenance workers

Two space heroes

A steampunk figure, who could be some sort of spacer, and a leader of space amazons
(the steampunk figure is from Reaper, the space amazon leader is from Hydra)

A Little Seasoning

A bit late for the holidays, but I finished off these 2 Reaper Christmas minis. Traditional Santa with a bog of toys and a dragon-cat in a Christmas tree. It took a while because I was dithering about colors and wasn't even sure about some of the detail or final results. But they are done now. Last of 2019/first of 2020.

Getting Prehistoric

Final batch of minis for 2019. These are Reaper Bones raptors and pygmy mammoth (still quite large though).

I took my inspiration for the raptors from big cats like leopard and cheetahs. And that made me want to make one of them melanistic, like a black leopard.

I painted the mammoth a pretty standard reddish brown.

Elves coming out of the woodwork

I finished a batch of Reaper elves. These are all over the place in sculpting style. Big heads, little heads, taller, shorter, different body proportions. In the end I like some better than others and will probably not keep all of them. Also, I think using flesh wash over everything may have been a mistake, but I am not thrilled about going back over everything. It was a lot of figures to paint at one time as it was.

Seven More Dwarves

My latest.
The free Reaper "Black" ogre from a couple of months ago.

Seven more dwarves from Lead Adventures. They have a good assortment of female dwarves as well as male ones. They fit in well with GW and Foundry dwarves.

Group shot (including some large candlesticks also from lead adventures - good for set dressing)

(sorry for the yellow cast to these pics. I don't know how to set my camera to balance the light when I don't use the flash indoors.)

Spacefarers

Finished a few more minis. I think these are all Reaper metal minis, mostly from fantasy lines, but I glued a hand with a laser pistol from the Heresy minis to the hand of the pirate elf to make her a space pirate elf. Any or all of them could be used as civilians in Core Space, and some (especially the pirate) could be used as crew or even a captain.

From left to right, space pirate elf (she's not really that much taller than the others, it's just that she's standing closer to the camera), fancy elf (ambassador, merchant, or other higher class civilian), alien pet, pirate lady or merchant? (human painted blue in time-honored sci-fi tradition), magic-user (psiker or merchant or other civilian type).

Terrain is from Battle Systems Galactic terrain set.

The pistol hand is one of the things I glued with super glue and then sprinkled with baking soda. Seems to be holding very well. I don't think it's ever going to come loose.

More Reaper Mouslings (and a Shark)

These are Reaper metal mouslings; barbarians, magic-users, archers, and assassin and thief.

Also, a Reaper shark pirate

More Space Dwarves

These ones are from the Theoc Space Dwarves kickstarter. There are some additional figures with separate arms and weapons, but I need to figure out how the arms should be attached. There is no clear peg and socket or anything. I suspect it will require some carving off of bits, pinning, and putty work. The ones here are all single-part all-in-one casting figures, which I usually prefer.

Command (maybe sergeant and lieutenant? or veteran/experienced?)
 One type of gun
A different type of gun

I tried something different with the guns, adding the non-metallic light blue; maybe these are some sort of laser or energy weapons?

And just for fun, a Komodo dragon from Reaper. Not sure why I got this or what I would use it for. I painted it based on a Komodo dragon I saw in a zoo recently.

Elves, Dwarves and Bears

These 2 wood elves are from Reaper. Maybe not clear from the angle, but the male elf is getting ready to fire a bow. The female has a lute strapped to her back.

More dwarves from Iron Mask Miniatures. Pikemen, and the first of the dwarves with muskets (the muskets have longer barrels, but they seemed too long to load so I cut them short).

A family of grizzly bears from Foundry.

Some chests from Super Dungeon Explore. I thought these could be useful in a variety of games, as background terrain "scatter" or as objectives.

Dirty Orcs and Others

Pursuant to the comments on the post: Improvised Shields I "dirtied" up the orcs's shields with a light overall wash of old GW flesh wash, followed with dabbing here and there with a somewhat darker brown wash mixed with a small amount of a bit of gray paint, on both shields and lower parts of their garments. I think it turned out suitably grubby. I did all of them, but here are a few representatives.

I also finished painting a Reaper rat ogre and a Reaper giant horned viper (it came with 2 heads, the other was more like a real snake, but I liked the idea of the horns to make it stand out from other snakes). I tried to base the horned viper's colors and pattern on the colors and pattern of a real life horned viper species.
