Exciting Train Wine Tasting!!
This is a restaurant introduced in Ei Matsumoto's essay comic "The Mysterious Restaurant 3." I've been extremely curious about it as it allows for "Train Drinking" right by the tracks.
During a recent trip to Tokyo, I invited an old friend and decided to visit this place.
We arrived around 6:20 PM on a weekday (without a reservation).
The restaurant is located in a commercial facility called [Maach Ecute Kanda Manseibashi](https://www.ecute.jp/maach), which has been developed at the site of the former Manseibashi Station on the JR Chuo Line. You can reach the restaurant entrance by climbing the "1912 Stairs" or "1935 Stairs" to the second floor (there's also an elevator). These stairs have a nostalgic and wonderful atmosphere.
Although the entrance of the restaurant is narrow, it stretches deep inside. Amazingly, this place is built on the platform of the old Manseibashi Station. I had heard about it, but seeing it in person was quite shocking.
The dining area is divided into two sections: the front has indoor seating, and the back features terrace seating. Both sides are lined with glass walls, and just outside are the tracks of the Chuo Line.
We chose the indoor seating, where there were about six tables for four.
Trains on the Chuo Line frequently pass by. Most of them are rapid or commuter trains, but express trains and express-type transfer trains occasionally go through.
It was thrilling! I couldn't help but cheer like a child. There was a moment when both up and down trains passed simultaneously on either side of the restaurant, and that probably peaked the excitement (laughs).
By the way, the sound of the passing trains wasn’t bothersome at all.
When we visited, surprisingly, it was quite empty. Besides us, there were only two other groups: a party of four middle-aged individuals and a middle-aged couple.
The menu was less extensive than I expected. It included simple appetizers, salads, carpaccios, pasta, pizza, curry, meat dishes, kids' menu items, and desserts. The drinks available included beer, cocktails, sours, wine, and soft drinks. The prices felt average to reasonable.
We ordered "Edo-mae Authentic Octopus Carpaccio JPY 1,000" and the "Chef’s Recommended PIZZA JPY 1,200" for two people.
As for drinks, I had the "Manseibashi Limited Train Squash (with alcohol) JPY 600" (all prices are tax included). There was no cover charge.
The drinks were served quickly, and the dishes arrived not long after.
Both dishes were delicious, but I felt they lacked a bit of impact and didn’t leave a strong impression.
What stood out was the "Manseibashi Limited Train Squash." There are five varieties (Keihin-Tohoku Line, Yamanote Line, Chuo Line, Sobu Line, Keiyo Line), each corresponding to the image colors of the respective lines (blue, green, orange, yellow, red). It’s pretty cool!
I tried all but the one from the Keiyo Line, and they all had a refreshing sweetness, making them easy to drink. The Sobu Line, with its citrus flavor, was my personal favorite.
By the way, there’s also a non-alcoholic version of the "Manseibashi Limited Train Squash" available for JPY 500.
This restaurant has an absolutely fantastic location! It’s rare to find a place where trains frequently pass by on both sides of the dining area right in front of you.
Next time, I definitely want to visit with my train enthusiast friends. It’s bound to be even more exciting (laughs).

<List of Platinum Fish Group> |
So, I visited with a friend who is a train enthusiast around 5:45 PM on a weekday (without a reservation).
Besides us, there were two other groups: a middle-aged couple and a group of four middle-aged women.
We ordered a "Margherita Pizza for JPY 1,200" and "Garlic Shrimp for JPY 1,000." For drinks, we had a "Train Squash (with alcohol) for JPY 650" (all prices include tax). There was no appetizer served.
The "Garlic Shrimp" was incredibly delicious with a strong garlic flavor. The shrimp came with shells that you could crunch right through, and the aroma was delightful.
By the way, as expected, my train-enthusiast friend was also super excited (laughs).
It was a lot of fun!
