| Restaurant highlights |
A hidden café tucked away in the back streets between Iidabashi and Korakuen.
Pōpoki means "cat" in Hawaiian. True to its name, this cozy café operates quietly in a back alley, perfect for cat lovers. While it’s not your typical Hawaiian café with flashy items like pancakes, we aim to provide a unique experience away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Enjoy a relaxing time with Hawaiian music and savor a cup of Hawaiian Kona coffee. |
From the east exit of JR Iidabashi Station, head north along Mejiro Street and enter the alley before the car dealership on the east side of the expressway.
This is a Hawaiian cafe filled with a homemade feel that opened in 2014.
I was drawn in by the sign on the main street and ventured into the back alley.
The entrance is through a door on the wall of the building.
Despite being a remodeled home, the interior is bright and spacious.
Each seating area is equipped with bag storage, catering to women.
The owner and her daughter run the shop together.
Of course, the BGM is Hawaiian music, and the shop's rack features women's magazines and books about Hawaii.
During lunch, they offer a "Plate Set" and a rice-based "PoPoKi Set."
The "Plate Set" includes bean curry, spam fritters, dumplings, broccoli, and potato salad, along with raspberry panna cotta.
It feels less like professional cooking and more like a casual lunch at a friend's house.
The experience might be different if you visit as a cafe.
