After shopping in Shinjuku, my friend and I decided to grab a light drink at "Private Room Izakaya Takumi, Shinjuku Sanchome Branch." Located on the 8th floor of a building, the interior has a calm, traditional Japanese atmosphere. All the seating appears to be fully private rooms, which allowed us to chat comfortably without worrying about others around us. The layout of the corridors and small rooms has a nostalgic izakaya feel, but it wasn't too cramped, making it quite cozy.
We started with a light appetizer of bean sprouts. They were steaming and had a nice crunch. The aroma of sesame oil and simple seasoning made it a perfect first dish. Next, we ordered the "Aburi Shime Saba" (seared mackerel), which had a nice char and was very flavorful. The accompanying gari (pickled ginger) surprisingly complemented it well, refreshing the palate.
For fried dishes, we chose "Tori Ten" (chicken tempura). The batter was light and fluffy, not heavy at all. The accompanying grated daikon ponzu sauce was excellent, and my friend enjoyed it too. We didn't plan to order another fried dish, but it was just the right size and easy to eat.
We also ordered avocado as a snack. The tobiko (fish roe) on top added a light accent, making it a great pairing with our drinks. Using the avocado skin as a serving dish was a cute touch.
Overall, this izakaya strikes a great balance for when you want to enjoy a meal in a private room. The dishes felt reliable, making it a perfect spot for days when you want to prioritize leisurely conversation. I found it to be a convenient option when looking for private rooms in Shinjuku.
