Located in the northwestern direction of Komagawa-Nakanoso Station on the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line, this Indian and Nepalese restaurant is situated in the "Lovely Mall Komagawa," a small shopping district connected to the northern end of the Komagawa Shopping Street, one of Osaka's three major shopping streets. I visited for lunch for the first time.
The interior features 6 counter seats facing the kitchen and 18 table seats, for a total of 24. While there are some decorations typical of Indian and Nepalese restaurants, the ambiance suggests it was originally a coffee shop.
The lunch menu offers a variety of set meals, ranging from the "Nan Curry Lunch" (JPY 600), which includes one type of curry, plain naan, and salad, to the "Milan Lunch" (JPY 1,250), featuring two types of curry, plain naan, steamed chicken rice, seekh kebab, chicken tikka, salad, dessert, and a drink.
Other options include the "Curry Rice Lunch" (JPY 750), "Steamed Chicken Rice Lunch" (JPY 700), and "Children’s Lunch" (JPY 550). I ordered the "Mutton Curry Lunch" (JPY 990) and requested it spicy.
Immediately, salad and soup were served. The salad was a typical mix of lettuce and cabbage, with a bright orange dressing that may have been carrot-based. The soup was creamy and smooth.
Before long, the main course arrived. On a stainless-steel thali plate, there was mutton curry, a small serving of steamed chicken rice, chicken tikka, and a slightly smaller naan. The naan was generously spread with ghee.
The mutton curry was a reddish-brown masala curry, topped with a swirl of cream and scallions. Its thick texture made it simply delicious. The spiciness came through clearly since I had asked for it hot.
The mutton pieces, of course, were thick and satisfying, reaffirming the great combination of mutton and curry. The curry, while spicy, also had a hint of sweetness, making it appealing to Osaka’s palate.
The chicken tikka, although small, was thick and juicy, with a fragrant flavor that complemented its taste. The spicy aroma was delightful.
The steamed chicken rice was what we refer to as biryani, made with Japonica rice. The chicken was cut into small pieces, infusing its flavor into the rice. The texture was chewy, and the spices were well-balanced and tasty.
Considering they have a "Steamed Chicken Rice Lunch" that includes salad and a drink, this must be one of the restaurant’s specialties.
The naan had a chewy texture with a slight sweetness. With ghee applied, it was rich and satisfying. Though it was on the smaller side, refills are available (excluding the Nan Curry Lunch), so even big eaters will be fine.
For dessert, I had hot chai. It wouldn’t be complete without it. The mild spices provided a gentle flavor, and just having it felt comforting.
This "Mutton Curry Lunch" offers all of this for just under JPY 1,000, making it a great value. Sitting at the counter allows you to observe the cooking process, which is a nice touch.
