On Sunday at 11:00 AM, after finishing my sightseeing at the Yokosuka Museum of Art, I thought about having lunch at the museum's restaurant, Acquamare. However, there were over 20 groups on the waiting list... It seems I was reckless to come without a reservation. If you're planning to visit the Yokosuka Museum of Art, I highly recommend making a reservation at Acquamare.
Next to the restaurant, there is a stand called Acquamare Stand, but I wasn't in the mood to eat outdoors in the heat. I quickly searched for nearby restaurants on Tabelog and aimed for Two Star, which is about a 5-minute walk away and looked like it had delicious bagels and toast. However, it turned out to be a biker-friendly café, and there were smoking riders at the entrance, causing smoke to drift into the interior, so I gave up on that.
A little further down, I found this restaurant, which was also full of customers who seemed to have faced a similar fate.
**Ordered Menu**
A Lunch / Tuna Sashimi Rice Bowl - JPY 900, tax Included
~ Comes with salad, cup soup, and drink
C Lunch / Grilled Squid and Scallops with Butter - JPY 900, tax Included
~ Comes with rice, salad, cup soup, and drink
I had high hopes for the Tuna Sashimi Rice Bowl since it was labeled as "directly delivered from the Yokosuka Fish Market," but the tuna was clumped together and rather dense. Although the portion was large, the taste was just okay... I wondered if that was all there was to it. My companion's Grilled Squid and Scallops with Butter was quite salty, and after just one bite of the squid, I thought, "Isn't it tough to eat this salty dish for the whole meal?" I wonder if fisherman's meals tend to be this salty.
This seems to be a family-run, homey restaurant with a wide variety of menu options. Drinks and cakes are reasonably priced, offering good value for money. However, if you're looking for lunch during your visit to the Yokosuka Museum of Art, I think it's best to simply make a reservation at the museum's restaurant, Acquamare. If you can't get a reservation and you're coming by train, I highly recommend the café Reverse Stone near Umabori Kaigan Station.
