This was my first visit.
The Matsusaka Beef Kappo Course was incredibly delicious and left me in awe! I think it was my first time eating Matsusaka beef, and I wondered if it was really okay to enjoy so much of it all at once.
This restaurant allows you to taste various parts of Matsusaka beef prepared in different styles, truly a kappo-style restaurant—it felt like a dream.
Each dish was not only beautifully plated but also presented with vibrant decorations that captivated me. The value offered for this full-course meal, considering its quality and quantity, felt astonishingly low.
I sat at the counter, allowing me to appreciate each dish's cooking, knife skills, and explanations in detail. Although larger groups are seated in a back room, the counter seats are undoubtedly the premium spots.
First, I was shown the beautiful raw Matsusaka beef and a certificate confirming its authenticity for the day.
I savored the exquisitely fresh Matsusaka beef, cooked right before my eyes, served casually on dishes like Ko-Imari and Wajima lacquerware. I noticed that even the chopsticks, which were finely tapered, were designed for easy handling, reflective of the master's dedication to his craft.
As soon as I took a bite, my face lit up, my eyes widened in surprise, and I couldn't help but close my eyes in joy, making sounds of delight like 'Wow, this is amazing!' and 'What is this?'...
I think there are not many beef kappo restaurants like this, and if one looks nationwide, are there as dedicated Matsusaka beef kappo restaurants as this?
Moreover, the fact that I could have this exquisite course at such an affordable price seemed unbelievable. If I were to eat a similar course in Tokyo, it would easily cost JPY 50,000 per person, right? I felt fully satisfied and accomplished.
The total stay lasted about 2 hours and 30 minutes. With so many dishes served, I believe it would be impossible to hurry through the experience. Therefore, I recommend future guests to take their time and enjoy everything thoroughly.
Once you’re there, you'll experience moments that will surely fulfill everyone's unspoken wishes, and I was pleasantly surprised by a thoughtful gesture that brought me joy (secret).
Make sure to visit and immerse yourself in the blissful moments!
During the 2 hours and 30 minutes, my friend and I exchanged smiles of happiness multiple times, riding the wave of the master’s culinary story!
There’s so much more to say, but personally, I felt like the master was like a charismatic host from a cooking show, making the dining experience even more enjoyable with his engaging conversation.
I learned he is a true professional in meat, and the restaurant’s kappo framework is supported by the skills of a young culinary expert with over 20 years of experience in authentic Japanese cuisine in Kyoto.
To conclude the meal, we enjoyed rice cooked in a pot with solid fuel at the counter. Under the master’s guidance, we opened the lid ourselves, and despite the earth's gravity, the rice stood impressively tall. We followed the master’s directions to perform various steps after opening the lid, and we were repeatedly astonished and moved by the rice experience.
I hope everyone goes and enjoys this epilogue; it would be great to share the same feelings of amazement!
There was another customer sitting at the counter—a gentleman who appeared to be a top tier businessman from the Chinese region. I suspected he was visiting Yokohama for business and might have come here through a referral or reservation arranged by a partner company, highlighting that this Matsusaka beef restaurant is suitable for such clientele. He was genuinely enjoying his meal.
We were so full that we couldn’t finish the rice, and to our surprise, Matsusaka Gyu Takagi graciously turned the leftover rice from each of our pots into onigiri (rice balls) for us to take home as a souvenir!
The onigiri we had at home was delicious and made us very happy!
It was a wonderful meal. Thank you, Matsusaka Gyu Takagi, for the happiness you provided.

It’s been about a year since my last visit in October 2025, and this time I wanted my senior colleague to experience this restaurant.
I reserved the same course that impressed me during my first visit.
For the anniversary gift, I was able to choose a full bottle of wine, and I opted for the red wine. I enjoyed the robust flavors of this South African red wine, rich in polyphenols, while savoring the early dishes of Takagi’s course.
After that, I switched to Japanese sake, which is served in wine glasses at Takagi. This style allows for slow sipping, which I appreciate. It’s also nice that the table doesn’t get sticky.
Now, regarding the course dishes, everything was exquisite—colorful, beautifully presented, served warm when needed, with thoughtful service and conversation. It was a perfect full course!
This is a "high-end restaurant yet surprisingly affordable" where you can enjoy Matsusaka Beef in various styles. It’s definitely a must-reserve "Matsusaka Beef Kaiseki Restaurant!"
I was blown away by the perfect course created by the master of meat and a craftsman who honed his skills for 30 years at a Kyoto Arashiyama Japanese restaurant. I couldn’t help but exclaim how delicious everything was!
Once again, thank you for the incredibly delicious meal!
