It was a Monday afternoon just past 2 PM, and many restaurants in the area were closed on Mondays. The only Thai restaurant that was likely open was Kwakuntim. I decided to head there, but as I approached the entrance, I noticed the door was wide open, making it easy to go in! However, I soon realized it was completely packed with lively Thai sisters.
So, I gave up on Thai food for today and settled for this place instead, which had no other customers at the time. This Indian-Nepalese restaurant had caught my interest for years, and I can't believe it's taken me a decade to finally visit. Given that it's on Thai Street, I often found myself heading for Thai cuisine instead.
I ordered the B set with Chicken Tikka for JPY 1400, choosing a medium-spice curry with chicken and mutton, and a chai drink. My dining companion opted for the A set with two curries for JPY 1200, also choosing medium spice with butter beans and keema, along with chai.
To cut to the chase, everything was fantastic.
The Chicken Tikka was juicy and absolutely worth the JPY 200 for the add-on. The salad was generous, featuring cabbage, tomatoes, and cucumbers, with a delicious dressing that topped it off. The naan had a bit of flavor to it and wasn’t a standalone item, but it was fluffy, well-baked, and paired perfectly with the curry. The rice was Japanese-style—fluffy, glossy, and cooked perfectly.
As for the chai, I think it might have been good; however, it arrived after my meal, just after 3 PM, which meant I had to drink it hurriedly before the lunch service ended. I had actually wanted to enjoy it alongside the naan…
All four types of curry were delightful. Rather than the typical flour-based thickness, these had a viscosity akin to vegetable juice, reminiscent of the curry at Shyaz Kitchen. They were delicious and paired excellently with the rice. Next time, I’d like to choose rice again, but I wonder if that means I’ll only have access to the single curry set? Either way, all the curries seemed great, so even choosing just one would be fine. However, it would be nice if I could select two curries with rice next time...
