Today, as a reward for completing an intense English conversation lesson, I decided to visit a local Chinese restaurant that I had been curious about with a friend.
Reflecting on the lesson while heading to dinner, we chose this restaurant because of its lively atmosphere and the extensive set meal options available even at night. The bright lighting and the sounds of sizzling hot pots, along with the enticing aromas, were irresistible and definitely whetted our appetites.
I immediately ordered the Pork and Vegetable Stir-fry, craving something light, along with an ice-cold beer to unwind after the day.
When the Pork and Vegetable Stir-fry arrived, it looked even better than I had imagined. The fluffy eggs coated in a special sweet and spicy sauce combined perfectly with the rich-flavored pork, making it an absolute delight. It was the ultimate "rice thief," encouraging me to keep eating more rice. The crunchy stir-fried vegetables, cooked over high heat, were light yet packed with deep flavor, making it hard to put my chopsticks down.
Meanwhile, my friend ordered the "Mapo Tofu Set Meal," which is a must-try for spice lovers. The steaming Mapo Tofu was vibrantly red, exuding an appetizing aroma of Sichuan pepper. My friend enthusiastically exclaimed, "The rich spiciness is amazing, and the silky texture of the tofu is just irresistible!" They happily took bites while adding a bit of Mapo to their rice.
With delicious Chinese food and beer, our conversation flowed effortlessly, filled with amusing stories from today’s English lesson, weekend plans, and our latest favorite dramas. Sharing warm meals in such a lively atmosphere while catching up on each other's lives was truly special.
It was a wonderful dinner that satisfied both body and soul. This casual yet authentic local Chinese food was the perfect choice to blow away the day’s fatigue and energize us for tomorrow. I am genuinely grateful for the enjoyable time spent with my friend and the delicious Chinese cuisine.

After my English conversation lesson, I decided to visit Chinese Meikaro for dinner with friends, as I was in the mood for Chinese cuisine. The biggest appeal of this restaurant is its incredible affordability, generous portions, and great service.
First and foremost, I must highlight the half-price drink special available on Mondays and Tuesdays. With draft beer, highballs, and chuhai at half price, it’s the perfect opportunity to toast with friends after a long day. Enjoying a cold drink after using my brain in English class was truly refreshing.
What makes Meikaro such a great deal is the set menu available even at night. The set I ordered was lavish and had a volume that was hard to believe for the price.
The main dish of the set was stir-fried liver and garlic chives, featuring a slightly spicy seasoning that whetted my appetite. The crunchy chives and rich liver made it easy to keep eating rice. This was accompanied by juicy and satisfying kara-age (fried chicken), irresistibly crispy spring rolls, a fresh salad, warm soup, and a delightful almond jelly for dessert.
With such a fulfilling menu, the total came to just JPY 1,100, tax included. The cost performance is astonishing, and I can confidently say that the satisfaction and portion size far surpass those of famous chain restaurants known for their gyoza.
I enjoyed a delightful dinner filled with fun conversations with friends, all while being satisfied both in my stomach and heart. I wholeheartedly recommend Meikaro for anyone looking to enjoy Chinese cuisine at an unbeatable price.
