Mark R Johnson

I'm a Senior Lecturer in Digital Cultures at the University of Sydney, where I'm a globally leading researcher of Twitch and game live streaming. I also study esports, and gambling in digital games. I have published extensively on the first of these fields in Q1 journals including in "New Media and Society", "Information, Communication and Society", "Media, Culture and Society", "Social Media and Society", "Games and Culture", "Convergence", and many others.

My latest book, "Twitch", has just been released as part of Polity's "Digital Media and Society" series, and offers an up-to-the-minute foundational look at the platform, as well as advancing a number of novel new arguments and insights about Twitch and its users.

In my spare time I am an independent game developer, where I am primarily known for the roguelike "Ultima Ratio Regum". The game is known for its extensive and distinctive procedural generation systems, and it has been reported on in The Guardian, Der Standard, etc. Given my PCG expertise I am also on the judging board of the NYU "Generative Design in Minecraft" competition.
