The College hosts year nine students from their main Sydney campus during a 6 month experiential education emersion program.
Students learn about themselves, others, and the outdoor environement through activities that progressively challenge students to new levels of belief in themselves.
Ian also works with athletes taking them through outdoor adventures that teach sport psychology skills through experiential hands on training modes. This based on his doctral work: The impact of adventure based training on team cohesion and psychological skills development in elite athtletes.

ABSTRACT
This research project adds to the growing body of knowledge that demonstrates the positive effects an adventure-based training intervention can have on a participant’s ability to transfer learning and new skills back to life outside the training venue. The research examined the impact of an adventure-based training intervention on the group cohesion and psychological skills development of elite netball players. Data was gathered using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
Quantitative data measuring group cohesion was assessed by means of the group environment questionnaire (GEQ) (Carron, Brawley & Widmeyer, 1985).
In qualitative terms, focus group and one on one phenomenological interviews were triangulated against observational and statistical data to help build a picture of the athletes’ experience. In the phenomenological tradition, obtaining the athletes’ perspective of the intervention was most important. With this approach, both the outcomes and the process that led to the outcomes were comprehensively documented.
This book would be a valuable resource for those needing research to support the efficacy of adventure-based training, or for individuals wanting a teaching tool that clearly articulates the facilitation of the change process using techniques such as metaphoric framing, edgework, funneling, and frontloading.

This paper gives an overview of this curriculum development process and a rationale as to why Outdoor Education should be part of every student's life while at school.

Talks by Ian Boyle
In this session, Dr. Ian Boyle will explore how recent research into neuroplasticity has opened a whole new field of brain health and how outdoor education is positioned to capitalise on this new research.
Ian will highlight: new programming ideas, opportunities for facilitating at the edge to promote new positive neural pathways, fresh marketing opportunities to promote outdoor-ed as part of the “brain training revolution”, Outdoors for the aging, and wilderness as a healing place for those suffering stress and other psychological disorders such as depression.
Join Ian as he discusses how Outdoor-ed can empower brain change and positively impact the lives of those who journey the outdoors with us.
