SWTOR Red Reaper Flashpoint Guide

The Red Reaper is a Flashpoint in Star Wars: The Old Republic that you can play with friends, or with other random players through the groupfinder.

The Red Reaper

In the century before the Sith Empire’s return to the known galaxy, the powerful Sith Lord Ikoral was among the Emperor’s most honored servants. Ikoral, himself a Sith Pureblood, believed in the genetic superiority of pureblooded Sith and became obsessed with discovering other Purebloods that fled from Korriban centuries ago. Over time Ikoral convinced the Dark Council to allow him to search for these lost Sith, and he set off with an expeditionary fleet. Seventy years have passed. Darth Ikoral has returned from his expedition with an army of mad Sith, and has begun a campaign to purify the galaxy of those he deems as unworthy. Having already laid waste to an Imperial fortress at the edge of the galaxy, Ikoral now sets his sights on the Republic-controlled world of Chandrila. While the Republic scrambles to defend their world, the Empire plots its revenge against Ikoral for his betrayal. Both factions now assemble elite groups of their strongest warriors to board his flagship and defeat Ikoral once and for all.

How to Start

The Red Reaper is a Flashpoint meant to be played at almost any time during your levelling or story path, and isn’t a big part of the main story line. You can encounter it in the story part way through your class story, or play it outside of the story with a group in Veteran or Master mode.

Use the tabs above for instructions for how to enter the flashpoint in the story line, and how to enter it in Solo (Story) mode, Veteran mode, and Master mode by faction.

Story/Solo – Republic Instructions

Unfortunately, there is no story or solo version of the The Red Reaper Flashpoint. You can watch the very short introductory cutscene by yourself, but without a group, you likely won’t be able to finish the Flashpoint in any of its available modes.

The Red Reaper has a Veteran mode, which is designed for 4 players level 15-80. However, if you are higher level, and have a higher skill level, gear level, and companion influence level, you may be able to run the entire Flashpoint solo with some patience and practice. Otherwise, you will need to run this Flashpoint with a group you put together in general chat, or through the group finder.

To learn more about where to pick up the introductory quest to see the start of the story, or to learn how to run it through the groupfinder, see the other tabs.

How to see the Introductory Quest Solo

Step 1 – On the Republic Fleet, take the eastern elevator to the Dropship Launch Hangar level

Step 2 – Pick up the quest from the terminal on the Dropship Launch Hangar level

If you are level 80, it will give you the option to choose between Veteran and Master. If you are below level 80, you will automatically be given then Veteran mode quest.

You next options are:

  • head on inside the nearby colorful door for The Red Reaper and try to solo it even though it is designed for 4 players
  • put together a group in general chat to run The Red Reaper
  • try to run The Red Reaper through the group finder
  • drop the quest for now, and come back later with a group or when you are more confident that you can solo it

Veteran – Republic Instructions

The Red Reaper has a repeatable 4-player Veteran version. It is meant to be completed by a group with any type of Republic characters in it, you do not necessarily need a tank or healer to complete it. You will likely also have good luck with 2 players and 2 companions, or 3 players and 1 companion.

Group Finder: If you want to queue up and enter The Red Reaper in veteran mode through the group finder, you will need to be level 41-80 and not currently on any The Red Reaper Flashpoint quests or it won’t show up as an option in the group finder. If you are level 41-80, click the icon of “three little people” on the bottom right of your screen which will open the Activity Finder Window. Then choose the Group tab in the Activity Finder.

Filter: If you want to specifically run The Red Reaper and not a random Flashpoint, make sure to choose Veteran Flashpoints, then click the Filter button the right and narrow your choices down to just The Red Reaper before pressing Join Queue. Joining the queue will put you in line to be matched with random players to play The Red Reaper with.

Bring a Friend in the Groupfinder: You can queue up with a group of 2, 3, or 4 players in the group finder. If you have a full group of 4, it will bring you straight to the Flashpoint with your full group. If you have 2 or 3 players in your group, the group finder will match you with other random players until you have a full group – but you’ll always be paired with your friends who started off in your group, and will not be split up.

Veteran Manual Entry (Republic): To enter this Flashpoint manually, you must go to the The Red Reaper’s Flashpoint entrance, which is located on the Republic Fleet, and you need to take the eastern fleet elevator to the Dropship Launch Hangar level, and pick it up from a terminal. Bosses

This Flashpoint has three boss fights – Lord Kherus, the Sv-3 Eradicator Droid and Darth Ikoral.

In story mode, and in Veteran Mode when you have multiple players you can use the medpacs scattered around the bosses. Right-click them to heal yourself.

The following boss info is mainly for story and Veteran mode – Master Mode tactics are not covered in this guide. However I do have a guide on Soloing Master Mode Red Reaper!

Lord Kherus

The first boss is Lord Kherus, the red-skinned Sith with prisoners kneeling on the ground.

This is the easiest of the three fights. you can ignore the mechanics if you want and just hit the boss with your lightsaber if you want. Otherwise, if you see a red circle, you can try staying out of it, and when he jumps to the center of the room near the kneeling prisoners, you can interrupt him.

Sv-3 Eradicator Droid

The second boss is the Sv-3 Eradicator droid on the command bridge surround by six red and blue pillars.

Much like the previous boss, this boss is very easy and you can ignore the mechanics entirely in Veteran mode.

I would however put your back facing to one of the pillars in the room, as the boss will do a knock-back – it will keep you close to the boss.

Darth Ikoral

The final boss, Darth Ikoral, in the big red room, is difficult, due to his mechanics.

You will need to know what your INTERRUPT ability is.

The fight will start with him in the center of the room.

At 80% health, Darth Ikoral will make two scantily clad sith ladies appear, one on either side of the room. Darth Ikoral will start shooting lightning from his hands at either you or your companion. Your goal is to instead get one of these ladies caught in the lightning. In the normal 4-person flashpoint, you would have your entire group run to the side of the room and hide behind a Sith lady, so the lightning hits her instead.

If you are playing this Flashpoint solo or with less than 4 players: However when playing solo, you’ll need to control your companion by setting them to passive, which will force them to follow you. To set your companion to passive, look near their companion portrait in the bottom left corner of your screen and press the blue icon of crossed arms. To position your passive companion, run all the way through the lady, so you are a bit of a ways past her. This will usually get your companion behind the lady, instead of accidentally just standing in front of her.

Once you get in position, you need to wait for these two things to happen: First – Darth Ikoral needs to be shooting lightning, and Second – the Sith lady needs to be casting. When both are true, and you are 100% sure you and your companion are all the way behind her, interrupt the lady.

Wait a moment to make sure it worked – if it did, she will start shaking around. If it did not work and she goes back to casting, you will need to wait for your interrupt and try again. Once you complete the first lady, you will run to the other side of the room with your passive companion and do the exact same thing for the second lady. Your interrupt may not be ready yet, so just wait until it is.

Once you finish a sith lady on each side, you’ll run back to the boss, and repeat!

If you are playing this Flashpoint solo:  You can set your companion to active so they can either attack or heal again. He’ll repeat the phase with the Sith Ladies again later in the fight – set your companion back to passive and repeat!

Skips

What follows are a quick gallery of images depicting specific walking routes that may save you some time by avoiding enemies during the flashpoint – certain routes will be highlited as the main “community routes” that you’ll probably see players in random activity-finder groups try to do – if you only practice one skip out of all of these, make it the community one! All of the following images are done without stealth or without a sleep dart/mind maze from a stealth character, so anyone can attempt them. If you fail to slip by unnoticed or see your team has attacked the enemies – always pull back from these routes and go back to help them defeat them! These may save time if everyone does them, but nothing makes a flashpoint slower than running ahead and not helping others to get out of combat again.

Solo Stealth: If you are playing Red Reaper alone and are on a Stealth character, you can skip all of the enemies except the bosses.

NOTE: You’ll see almost every skip here is marked as community: Red Reaper is a very common Flashpoint for efficient grinding due to having well-known community routes through it.

Skip #1 – Community Route

Right off the hop upon starting Red Reaper you’re going to want to run straight to the right-hand wall and go behind the big storage box. Keep the next wall on your right and stick to it as you jump over some boxes and run behind a forklift to the doorway out of the hangar. Midway through behind the storage box you should enter combat – check your minimap! If you just see red dots in the hall up ahead and not in the hangar itself, you did it right and can advance to fight your first group of 3. If you see ANY red dots on your minimap from the “already fighting” guys in the hangar, your group will have to clear out the whole hangar to get out of combat.

Skip #2 – Community Route

This may not be quite as commonly done as the first skip, but many groups will still do it. After defeating the 3 hall guards that you can’t avoid getting out of the hangar, hang left and drop down near the wall-pillar. It’s very important to drop down as far left as you can on this ledge, as the Sith Purifier in the middle of the room will chain-aggro everyone else inside if you’re detected. If you aren’t though, you can run straight to the elevator at the back of the room.

Skip #3 – Crewskill Skip

If someone in your group has scavenging at 300 at least, you can start up this elevator here that gets you up onto the catwalks above this room. From here you’ll see a path to a 2nd floor room that leads to the exit, eventually, via a ramp. NOBODY GOES THIS WAY. If someone in your group activates this elevator, you will use it to get higher, and then jump over the side towards a large imperial tank with treads in the middle of this cargo area: this might look like you’re only skipping three silver-level droids at the beginning, but it sets you up for another very common community skip next.

Skip #4 – Community Skip

Now that you’re at the imperial tank (whether you used the elevator or not), you can advance a little further ahead towards the huge pack of droid enemies, but then take a sharp left turn at the pile of 3 crates near the tank. Between two shipping containers here is a gap wide enough for almost all characters (certain male body types may struggle) to walk through. Once you’re on the other end, head up the ramp.

Skip #5 – Community Skip

As you read this guide you should be getting a sense as to why Red Reaper is commonly regarded by the community as one of the FPs you would farm many times over if you needed something specifically from flashpoints – nearly the whole flashpoint community constantly skips a lot of enemies in this one! Simply run by the pillar on the right after ascending the ramp from skip 4 to get behind these three and to the next elevator.

Skip #6 – Community Skip

As you get out of the elevator, run ahead and jump up the computer consoles up ahead to get to the upper tier without tussling with any laser cannons. From here you can engage the 2nd boss immediately. Just be careful of it’s knockback attacks.

Skip #7 – Community Skip

After defeating the 2nd boss and trying to hit the override console, your objective updates to the opposite elevator supposedly guarded by a handful of enemies – you can run right past these enemies, aggro them, and get inside the elevator and wait them out – after a few seconds they give up. Guess that’s Ikoral’s personal elevator and they aren’t allowed in. In solo, or groups of 2 or 3, make sure everyone’s companions are set to passive so that they wait inside the elevator with you. Note that while this guide doesn’t cover sleep darts, but the pack outside the next elevator is a common place stealthers like using one.

Skip #8 – Crewskill Skip

If you’ve got a high level (350) Archeologist in the group, you can interact with this large sith holocron after clearing the sith off of it, and it’ll turn off the red ray shields ahead of you. This enables you to go straight across the area instead of through the catwalks on the right-hand path. This may or may not be faster, though, because without sleep darts there’s quite a few enemies in the central area. Groups will sometimes sleep dart the Disciples on the extremes of the platform so the group can run behind the statues and altars.

Rewards

In addition to the usual rewards of XP, credits, gear and end-game currency, The Red Reaper has the following rewards available.
