SWTOR Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint Guide

Kaon Under Siege is a Flashpoint in Star Wars: The Old Republic that you can run with friends or with other random players through the groupfinder.

Kaon Under Siege

An epidemic of rakghoul plague has broken out on several worlds in the Tion Hegemony, spreading like wildfire and consuming them. There is a single holdout, the world of Kaon, that is in desperate need of outside aid. You have been dispatched to Kaon to help contain the outbreak of rakghoul plague, though that is only part of your mission. It’s suspected that the outbreak was a deliberate biological attack by an unknown enemy hoping to destabilize the Tion Hegemony for their own gain. You have been tasked to discover the source of the Kaon outbreak in the hope that it will lead you to the perpetrators.

How to Start

Kaon Under Siege is a Flashpoint meant to be played later in the story, quite a while after your class story is completed. You can encounter it after your class story,  or play it outside of the story with a group in Veteran or Master mode.

Use the tabs above for instructions for how to enter the flashpoint in the story line, and how to enter it in Veteran mode and Master mode on Republic Side or Imperial Side.

  • Story: Lvl 50+
  • Solo: No “solo” version available.
  • Veteran: Lvl 15-80
  • Veteran Groupfinder: Lvl 50-80
  • Master Mode: Lvl 50-80 †
  • Master Mode Groupfinder: Lvl 80

Story/Solo – Republic Instructions

Requirements: To play the Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint in the story, and receive all the special cutscenes related to the Flashpoint in the story, you will need to be level 50+.

Unfortunately, there is no solo version of the Kaon Under Siege. You can watch the very short introductory cutscene by yourself, but without a group, you likely won’t be able to finish the Flashpoint in any of its available modes.

Kaon Under Siege has a Veteran mode, which is designed for 4 players level 15-80. However, if you are higher level, and have a higher skill level, gear level, and companion influence level, you may be able to run the entire Flashpoint solo with some patience and practice. Otherwise, you will need to run this Flashpoint with a group you put together in general chat, or through the group finder. To learn more about how to run it through the groupfinder, see the other tabs.

Timeline: In the story, this Flashpoint takes place after the end of the original base game – so after your class story, and after the False Emperor storyline and flashpoints, but it isn’t a big part of the main storyline, so you can play it later or come back to it at any time.

Bring a Friend: If you want to bring a friend along for this Flashpoint to do the full story line with you, you easily can.

If they have not done the Kaon Under Siege storyline, they can join you in a group and you can follow the exact same steps together if they are also level 50+.

If they have already run the storyline, they’ll be able to join you in the cutscenes after talking to the first questgiver, by walking in the door after you on the Gav Daragon. Then after you finish that cutscene with them watching, you’ll be able to enter the Flashpoint, but your friend won’t have any quests so they can’t walk in behind you… tell them to go talk to the nearby questgiver Yindo and pick up the [Start Veteran Mode] quest and then they will be able to enter the Flashpoint with you if they are also level 50+.

Directions to the Republic Story Quest for Kaon Under Siege: Kaon Under Siege’s one-time story quest is started by speaking to a Cathar in the middle of the Supplies section of the fleet named Whisper, at level 50 or higher. The cat-like questgiver will have a yellow triangle quest over his head. The Flashpoint itself is located on the fleet on the Gav Daragon, and you need to take the eastern fleet elevator to the Interfleet Transport level, and a taxi to the Gav Daragon Mission Deck. You can also quicktravel directly to the Gav Daragon from the fleet. The flashpoint storyline is called Outbreak in the Tion Hegemony for Republic players.

Step 1 – Questgiver in the Supplies section of the fleet named Whisper

Step 2 – Get to the Gav Daragon – either quicktravel if you have it, or…

.. take the Taxi to the Gav Daragon. To get there, use the Elevator on the east side of the Republic Fleet to the Interfleet Transport level.

Then take the Taxi to the Gav Daragon.

Step 3 –  Follow the quest marker for the Outbreak in the Tion Hegemony quest in the southern door labelled ‘Tion Mission Hangars’. Go in the green door – do NOT talk to the two questgivers.

Speak to Chief Rannos on the Gav Daragon for a short cutscene.

Step 4 – Pick up the quest. Afterwards, he’ll send you to go speak to Yindo, just outside the door.

You’ll likely want to choose the Veteran Mode version from Yindo.

If for some reason it is not available, you might already have a version of the Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint in your quest log… you can abandon that first if you need to, then talk to Yindo again.

Step 5 – Run the Flashpoint.  Then you can head on inside and run the Flashpoint! The door is around the corner.

Lost the quest? If you lost the Outbreak in the Tion Hegemony quest, head back to Whisper the quest giver in the Supplies section of the Fleet – it can be abandoned, so you may have dropped it somewhere along the way. If you lost the ability to walk into the Flashpoint door, or lost the quest with the word Flashpoint in it, you can pick up the  [VETERAN] Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege quest from the Yindo outside the flashpoint’s entrance.

Veteran Instructions

Kaon Under Siege has a repeatable 4-player Veteran version. It is meant to be completed by a group with any type of Republic characters in it, you do not necessarily need a tank or healer to complete it. You will likely also have good luck with 2 players and 2 companions, or 3 players and 1 companion.

Group Finder: If you want to queue up and enter Kaon Under Siege in veteran mode through the group finder, you will need to be level 50-80 and not currently on any Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint quests or it won’t show up as an option in the group finder. If you are level 50-80, click the icon of “three little people” on the bottom right of your screen which will open the Activity Finder Window. Then choose the Group tab in the Activity Finder.

Filter: If you want to specifically run Kaon Under Siege and not a random Flashpoint, make sure to choose Veteran Flashpoints, then click the Filter button the right and narrow your choices down to just Kaon Under Siege before pressing Join Queue. Joining the queue will put you in line to be matched with random players to play Kaon Under Siege with.

Groupfinder flashpoints do NOT show the cutscenes. To see the cutscenes related to this Flashpoint, you must enter it manually by walking in the door.

Bring a Friend in the Groupfinder: You can queue up with a group of 2, 3, or 4 players in the group finder. If you have a full group of 4, it will bring you straight to the Flashpoint with your full group. If you have 2 or 3 players in your group, the group finder will match you with other random players until you have a full group – but you’ll always be paired with your friends who started off in your group, and will not be split up.

Story: [VETERAN] Kaon Under Siege will not progress your storyline – it is simply the repeatable group version. If you are a low level, this is the only version that will show up on the actual Flashpoint terminal in front of the entrance door – so don’t be confused and accidentally enter the group version if you are a low level, as it is not meant to be completed alone. To work on the overarching story, you also need to be on the quest Outbreak in the Tion Hegemony on the step Complete Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege and then run the [VETERAN] Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege quest.

Veteran Manual Entry (Republic): To enter this Flashpoint manually, you must go to the Kaon Under Siege’s Flashpoint entrance, which is located on the Fleet on the Gav Daragon ship. To start Veteran mode, choose [Start Veteran Mode] from Yindo the questgiver in the Tion Mission Hangar part of the ship to the the south. You can then walk in the nearby door and play the Flashpoint.

Bring a Friend Manually: Veteran Mode Flashpoints are not meant to be completed alone, though highly-skilled, highly-geared, high-level players might be able to. To bring friends along for this Veteran Flashpoint, they’ll need to pick up the Veteran Mode quest from the questgiver – or you can pick up the quest and share it with them, but they’ll still need to walk in the door manually. Characters walking in the door need to be level 15+.

Step 1 – Get to the Gav Daragon – either quicktravel if you have it, or…

.. take the Taxi to the Gav Daragon. To get there, use the Elevator on the east side of the Republic Fleet to the Interfleet Transport level.

Then take the Taxi to the Gav Daragon.

Step 2 – Speak to the Yindo questgiver

Choose [Start Veteran Mode] then enter the nearby Flashpoint door.

Master Instructions

Master Mode is the hardest version of Kaon Under Siege. It is meant to be completed by a high-level high-skilled group at level 80. Most teams will want a Tank, Healer and two Damage characters.

Group Finder: If you want to queue up and enter Kaon Under Siege in Master Mode through the group finder, you will need to be level 80 and not currently on any Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint quests or it won’t show up as an option in the group finder. If you are level 80, click the icon of “three little people” on the bottom right of your screen which will open the Activity Finder Window. Then choose the Group tab in the Activity Finder.

Filter: If you want to specifically run Kaon Under Siege and not a random Flashpoint, make sure to choose Master Flashpoints, then click the Filter button the right and narrow your choices down to just Kaon Under Siege before pressing Join Queue. Joining the queue will put you in line to be matched with random players to play Kaon Under Siege with.

Groupfinder flashpoints do NOT show the cutscenes. To see the cutscenes related to this Flashpoint, you must enter it manually by walking in the door.

If you have 2 or 3 players in your group, the group finder will match you with other random players until you have a full group – but you’ll always be paired with your friends who started off in your group, and will not be split up. Your friends all need to be level 80 too.

Story: [MASTER] Kaon Under Siege will not progress your storyline – it is simply the repeatable difficult group version. To work on the overarching story, you also need to be on the quest Outbreak in the Tion Hegemony on the step Complete Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege and then run the [VETERAN] Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege quest (Master Mode may progress within the story – I’m not sure).

Veteran Manual Entry: To enter this Flashpoint manually, you must go to the Kaon Under Siege’s Flashpoint entrance, which is located on the planet of Gav Daragon, which you can fly to on your ship. The Flashpoint questgiver is named Yindo. If you don’t see the Solo version it means you are not yet eligible due to being below level NONE. The solo, single-player repeatable mode will be called [Start Master Mode] from the questgiver. You can then walk in the nearby door and play the Flashpoint.

Bring a Friend Manually: Master Mode Flashpoints are not meant to be completed alone, and are designed for level 80 players who are comfortable with their role and class. To bring friends along for this Master Flashpoint, they’ll need to pick up the Master Mode quest from the questgiver – or you can pick up the quest and share it with them, but they’ll still need to walk in the door manually while you’re in a group. Level 50-80 characters can technically enter Master Mode flashpoints, but all the enemies are level 80, and they will die very quickly.

Choose [Start Master Mode] then enter the nearby Flashpoint door.

Directions to the Imperial Story Quest for Kaon Under Siege: Kaon Under Siege’s one-time story quest is started by speaking to a questgiver in the middle of the Supplies section of the fleet named Lord Velnine, at level 50 or higher. The questgiver will have a yellow triangle quest over his head. The Flashpoint itself is located on the fleet on the Ziost Shadow, and you need to take the eastern fleet elevator to the Interfleet Transport level, and a taxi to the Ziost Shadow Mission Deck. You can also quicktravel directly to the Ziost Shadow from the fleet. The flashpoint storyline is called Trouble in the Tion Hegemony for Imperial players.

Step 1 – Questgiver in the Supplies section of the fleet named Lord Velnine

Step 2 – Get to the Ziost Shadow – either quicktravel if you have it, or…

.. take the Taxi to the Ziost Shadow. To get there, use the Elevator on the east side of the Imperial Fleet to the Interfleet Transport level.

Then take the Taxi to the Ziost Shadow.

Step 3 –  Follow the quest marker for the Trouble in the Tion Hegemony quest in a north-eastern hallway. Go in the green door – do NOT talk to the two questgivers around the corner.

Speak to Darth Nurin on the Ziost Shadow for a short cutscene.

Step 4 – Pick Up the Flashpoint Quest. Afterwards, she’ll send you to go speak to EN-C7, just around the corner.

You’ll likely want to choose the Veteran Mode version from EN-C7.

If for some reason it is not available, you might already have a version of the Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint in your quest log… you can abandon that first if you need to, then talk to EN-C7 again.

Step 5 – Run the Flashpoint. You can head on inside the nearby door and run the Flashpoint, after getting the quest from EN-C7.

Lost the quest? If you lost the Trouble in the Tion Hegemony quest, head back to Lord Velnine the quest giver in the Supplies section of the Fleet – it can be abandoned, so you may have dropped it somewhere along the way. If you lost the ability to walk into the Flashpoint door, or lost the quest with the word Flashpoint in it, you can pick up the  [VETERAN] Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege quest from the EN-C7 outside the flashpoint’s entrance.

Bosses

This Flashpoint has three boss fights – a turret fight, the red Rakghoul Behemoth, and the Rakghoul Super Soldiers final three fight. There’s also a bonus boss called the KR-82 Expulser, and a secret boss that is only available during the Rakghoul event.

In Veteran Mode when you have multiple players you can use the medpacs scattered around the bosses. Right-click them to heal yourself.

The following boss info is mainly for Veteran mode – Master Mode tactics are not covered in this guide.

Throughout the Flashpoint, you will run into little glowing blue boxes – you can right-click these to give your character a glowing light over their head, making the dark rooms a little bright and easier to see.

Throughout the Flashpoint, there will be Infected Mercenary enemies that will grapple hook and stun your team mates for a long time – 30 seconds. Interrupt or stun them to break their grapple to help your teammates. Focus on killing them first so they are much les annoying.

Solo, these enemies are very annoying. You will want to either attack them first and stun them, then kill them before they can grapple you, or use your stunbreaker but then do NOT interrupt their grapple – just kill them while they are uselessly grappling.

Boss 1 – Turrets

The first boss is waves of attacks called the Delayed Charge Detonator Defense Event. You need to protect the area before the rakghoul overwhelm it.

You start the fight by right-clicking the glowing blue box.

The nearby turret will become mountable – right click the turret to get on it. It may not glow blue by default but will still be clickable. Aim the turret in the direction you want it to shoot, ideally towards rakghouls, and it will auto-shoot. Only one player can be on the turret at a time.

You can get off the turret by right-clicking the icon of a turret on your buffs.

Solo, this fight is long and annoying but doable.

Boss 2 – Rakghoul Behemoth

The second boss can be brought to the cannisters, then set on fire, otherwise he takes less damage when you fight him. You can set him on fire by running him to a cannisters, then right-clicking the cannister when he is nearby.

When he enters a frenzy, you can run away from him if he is chasing you.

BONUS Boss – KR-82 Expulser

The Bonus Boss is available in both Veteran Mode and Master Mode in Kaon Under Siege.

Quarantine Breach (Bonus)

  • Defeat Hostile Contacts 0/25
  • Defeat Hostile Contacts 0/25
  • Activate Containment Beacons 0/6
  • Defeat the KR-82 Expulser

Focus on the little Emergency Response Droids when they show up.

Boss 3 – Rakghoul Super Soldiers

The final boss is three enemies, Commander Lk’graagth, Chak’aghakh, and G’klarg.  Some groups focus on fighting the Commander first.

SECRET Boss (Rakghoul Event Week ONLY) – The Midnight Rakghoul

The Midnight Rakghoul is a secret boss in Kaon Under Siege that is only available when the Rakghoul event is also live. This boss is hidden in the south west section of the Transit District map in Kaon City, and you can kinda see him behind the fence when the event is not on.

Much like the world bosses, you will need to have a small pile of vaccines handy as the boss does a big splash of rakghoul infection and you will need to reapply your vaccine every time he does that. He has a guaranteed drop of a Midnight Rakling pet. Only one pet drops, so if you are running with a group of friends you will need to run the Flashpoint multiple times so you can each get one.

Bonus Quest

The Bonus Quest in Kaon Under Siege leads you to the bonus boss, available in both Veteran Mode and Master Mode.

The first step is to kill 25 enemies then 25 enemies again. You do not need to try and kill enemies – even if you skip every single one, the first boss will get you all the hostiels you need for the entire bonus. Just make sure to backtrack a bit afterwards to get the first beacon.

Quarantine Breach (Bonus)

  • Defeat Hostile Contacts 0/25
  • Defeat Hostile Contacts 0/25
  • Activate Containment Beacons 0/6
  • Defeat the KR-82 Expulser

After the first part of killing enemies, you’ll be looking for six glowing blue beacons you can right-click which also turn into turrets that will shoot enemies. There’s a total of eight scattered around the map incase you miss one. The bonus boss is available alomst immediately after the second boss (the red Rakghoul you can set on fire) and there’s two turrets nearby if you need them, you just need to backtrack a bit to the bonus boss if so.

This will lead you to the bonus boss, KR-82 Expulser.

Skips

What follows are a quick gallery of images depicting specific walking routes that may save you some time by avoiding enemies during the flashpoint – certain routes will be highlited as the main “community routes” that you’ll probably see players in random activity-finder groups try to do – if you only practice one skip out of all of these, make it the community one! All of the following images are done without stealth or without a sleep dart/mind maze from a stealth character, so anyone can attempt them. If you fail to slip by unnoticed or see your team has attacked the enemies – always pull back from these routes and go back to help them defeat them! These may save time if everyone does them, but nothing makes a flashpoint slower than running ahead and not helping others to get out of combat again.

Solo Stealth: If you are playing Kaon Under Siege alone and are on a Stealth character, or are in a full group of stealthers, you can skip many of the enemies, but not all of them. You shouldn’t have to fight anything until you reach the blue door with the aristocrats in front of it, but after that, the Rogue Security Scanner floating droids will detect you as you walk by – stay away from them when possible if you are not in a tight hallway. You’ll also have to fight the rakghoul ambush with Major Byzal after the cutscene, because it is part of the quest objective. Choosing to kill him (dark side) will skip the fight with him if you are trying to go quickly. Unfortunately after this point, a lot of the enemies pop out of nowhere and can’t be skipped.

Skip #1

This first isn’t so much of a skip as a reminder that these enemies shown here are already engaged with other NPCs so you don’t have to do anything – just walk by them and you won’t enter combat.

Skip #2 – Advanced

If you feel like trading a fight with a champion-level enemy for a gold one, you can hop the fence here by standing on the cylindrical scrap pile and leaping to where the fence meets the wall on your right. Honestly, it skips 0.5 droids and has a good chance of getting your character stuck. Not hugely recommended. The rest of the theatre district takes place in more narrow hallways where the droids are unavoidable. In the actual theatre room there’s only two droids, so if they’re patrolling away from your stairs down to the exit, go ahead and take them. Simple.

Skip #3

Once again when traveling out of the theatre and into the park, you can just run by this firefight. They won’t attack you.

Skip #4

In the collapsed road tunnel on the way to the military checkpoint from the park, you can skip a group of rakghouls by jumping across the crashed vehicles on the right. Depending on timing, a plaguebearer may climb up on top of a vehicle and block off the skip like in the image above, but you usually have plenty of time before he decides to do so.

Skip #5

Once again you can hop on another vehicle to get by the very next big group. Taller characters may have to jump ONTO the exposed rebar in your way instead of running under it to get clear, which is why the third arrow is drawn in such a way. Walk onto the cockpit, and leap up onto it and out away from the rakghouls to the safe side of the road.

Skip #6

After the defense event and navigating the park’s sewer-like service tunnels, you’ll come up to a break in the wall that a pack of rakghouls run ahead of you to attack. Let them run up there unchallenged and just sneak by their AoE attacks as you run through the hole. They’ll be busy with other NPCs and won’t aggro.

Skip #7

After skip 6, you’ll immediately get ambushed in the next room, it’s unavoidable. The room after that though, has an ambush on NPCs again, meaning you can just walk by, yet again.

Skip #8

Almost the entirety of the Transit District is an unskippable mess where even if you manage to get by a group, it means pulling a different one. After the rakghoul behemoth boss though, you can run around these pillars on the highway and thread the needle between groups to dodge a few on the way out.

Rewards

In addition to the usual rewards of XP, credits, gear and end-game currency, Kaon Under Siege has the following rewards available.

Large Field Generator

The Large Field Generator drops from Kaon Under Siege. I am unsure if this drops in any mode, but the player who reported it said they got it from the final boss Commander Lk’graagth, Chak’aghakh, G’klarg. It can also be bought and sold on the GTN.

Midnight Rakling

The Midnight Rakling is a guaranteed drop from the limited-time Midnight Rakghoul boss in the Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint, who is hidden in the south west section of the Transit District map in Kaon City. Much like the world bosses, you will need to have a small pile of vaccines handy as the boss does a big splash of rakghoul infection and you will need to reapply your vaccine every time he does that. Only one pet drops, so if you are running with a group of friends you will need to run the Flashpoint multiple times so you can each get one.
