Admittedly, I've been pretty remiss in updating here. It isn't for lack of interest or anything; I still prefer LJ to the likes of Twitter, Facebook, or whatever, but time is of the essence and I just haven't felt like sitting down to write.
That said, contrary to popular belief and/or hopes, I am still very much alive.
Summer School ends on July 3, which means I get a very delicious five weeks off before dealing with another ten months of dealing with special needs and other kids.
I will likely do something fun during that time. Maybe a horsey ride on the beach again. Definitely gonna see a bunch of retro old farts playing music at the Whinery again. This time it's Howard Jones, China Crisis, Katrina (sans Waves), Midge Ure without Ultravox, and Tom Bailey without the other two Thomspon Twins. I'll let you know how it goes.
Two items of note: The Fixx are playing the Boardwalk for a free concert. They're great in concert and it's the original line up. Well worth a jaunt over 17 to see them.
Also, The Tubes are playing on the 4th of July, same place. Complete with Fee Waybill. Heck, he IS the Tubes. You can't go wrong with White Punks on Dope. What do you want from life?
BAY AREA PEOPLE There's a really, really, REALLY good Multipurpose Asian Restaurant in Fremont/Newark/Wherever. I can't tell exactly where because borders are confused in that area. So this place is called Hi Land Sushi Restaurant, and they're located on Newark Blvd/Jarvis in the Raleigh's shopping center. They're on the side closest to Newark Blvd.
This used to be the mediocre sushi boat place, but it's like they learned how to make good food or something. The boats are still there, but they seemed to be dry docked the day I went.
In addition to the Spider Roll (which was made with soft shelled crab instead of the traditional tempura prawns), I had something called the Spicy Crunchy, and something else called the Hama J roll. Spicy Crunchy is spicy tuna with spicy something else and things and stuff. The Hama J is this jalapeno hamachi roll that will make your taste buds quiver with delight.
They do have non spicy sushi, in addition to a wide range of Chinese dishes (!), and some Thai things that apparently get served at lunch time.
Also, they have bottled Fiji water, if you like paying for your agua.
Oh and the dessert! Made at the restaurant. Not packaged stuff. Scratch. They gave me a complimentary chocolate brownie thing (c'mon, it's wafer thin) that would have caused me to burst open if I had eaten just one molecule more.
Go there. Go there now. I want this place to survive, if nothing else for those Spider rolls.
