Chittagong is the second largest city of Bangladesh and witness of hundreds of earthquakes that j... more Chittagong is the second largest city of Bangladesh and witness of hundreds of earthquakes that jolted this city and its surrounding areas. In this paper, we will show the cause of slope failure in Chittagong city with the response of earthquake (seismic) activity. We have collected four in-situ samples from each of the upper and lower layers, i.e., eight samples from each of the seven different locations (Motijharna, Tankir Pahar, Batali Hill, Khulshi, Kushumbag, Akbar Shah, Lebu Bagan (Andhar Manik)) for laboratory analysis. Furthermore, mathematical modeling by using Limit Equilibrium Method showed that most of the dry slopes may fail at medium to big earthquake. Motijhartna, Tankir pahar and Batali hill area with discontinuities or joints are most vulnerable during an earthquake. The area with massive formations without any natural discontinuity is less risky to respond to medium earthquake of magnitude 6.5.

To keep environment clean and safe, renewable energy has become the most effective solution. But the idea of renewable energy is not new. The oldest form of renewable energy was the conversion of biomass into fuel fires that had been using since 790,000 years ago. Then there comes the use of wind energy to drive the ship into water. There are some other energy sources that were considered as the primary sources of renewable energy such as water energy, human labor, animal power etc. At in the time of 1900, the United States was solely dependent on the oil and natural gas. But now, the scenario is changing as solar energy, hydroelectricity, wind energy etc are proving themselves to be the convenient sources for energy. In this presentation, we will look deep into some of the renewable energy sources as well as their prospect in the future energy solution.
