In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through how to link different types of posts together on Tapestry—such as observations, reflections, planned activities, and activities from your own Activities Collection. Linking posts helps you keep related content connected and easy to find.
For example, an observation might inspire you to reflect on something you’d like to improve within your setting. In that case, you can create a reflection and link it directly to the observation that prompted your thinking. Throughout this guide, we’ll show you how to do this and explain the permissions staff and relatives need in order to use linked posts effectively.
Please note that you will need to be a manager staff user on the account to enable links as this requires access to the Configuration menu.
Before staff or relatives can use this feature, you’ll need to enable the links feature, and you may also want to review the permissions for staff and relatives.
Go to Configuration > Features.
Scroll down to the Page Links section and here you can see if the feature is enabled or no. You can enable or disable as is relevant.
There’s also a button to amend Relative Permissions and Staff Permissions for page links. Click on the relevant button to view the current permissions and make changes.
Both staff and relative’s have the following permisions:
Select Edit next to the permission to make changes, the following options will load to set as permitted or not permitted. If you need to set individual permissions then tick the box and set for each user accordingly.
For further information about setting permissions please take a look at this tutorial.
Next, we’ll look at using page links.
Some posts will link automatically, such as when an observation is created from a planned activity.
In other cases, you will need to add the links yourself. If you have permission to do this, you will see a Links box near the bottom of the page when adding or editing an observation, reflection, planned activity, or activity from the Activities Collection. This area allows you to add links to other types of posts.
When you choose the type of post you want to link to, a pop up will appear with filtering options to help you find the specific item you need.
Once you locate the correct post, you simply tick the box next to it and select Done.
If you want to link an additional type of post, you can repeat the process as needed.
As links are added, they will appear at the foot of the post. See the example from an observation with links.
Then in the Links area when you open the post so you can easily see everything that has been connected.
If you want to remove a link edit the relevant post and select the Bin to remove it. The example below is removing a link from an observation.
When posts are linked, Tapestry automatically creates a timeline showing when each linked item was created with the most recent first. This helps illustrate the sequence of events. For example, if a reflection occurred before the observation, you are currently writing, it will appear earlier in the timeline, while any later observations will appear afterwards. See the example timeline below for a Planned Activity.
And that’s it! Please use the buttons below to explore more features.
