Hello there! I started this blog in 2015 with the goal of strengthening the library marketing industry through shared information. I currently work as Manager of Engagement and Marketing for NoveList, a company dedicated to helping libraries reach readers with the books they want and need. I am proud of the work I’ve done developing professional development courses for Learn with NoveList. My background includes more than six years as the Content Team Leader for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and more than 20 years as an Emmy-award-winning broadcast television news journalist. A 2023 Library Journal Mover & Shaker, I’m passionate about library marketing and have expertise in collection marketing, strategy, public relations, email, and social media.
Quite honestly, I am happiest when I’m in a room with library staff, talking about the struggles and triumphs of promoting libraries. I’ve had the good fortune to speak with engaged audiences at conferences around the world for organizations including:
šLibrary Marketing and Communications Conference
šContent Marketing World
šAssociation for Rural and Small Libraries
šAssociation of Public Libraries of Quebec
šWisconsin Valley Library Service
šWest Georgia Regional Library Service
šMichigan Library Association
šAmerican Library Association
šOhio Library Council
šIndiana Federation of Libraries
šIllinois Library Association
šEdge Conference for the City of Edinburgh, Scotland Council
šMississippi Library Association
šNew England Library Association
šInland Northwest Council of Libraries
šOntario Library Association Super Conference
šWild Wisconsin Winter Web Conference
šBergen County Cooperative Library System
šNew South Wales, Australia Libraries
š Northeast Florida Library Information Network
šMarigold Library System
šNorthern Lights Library System
šAtlantic Provinces Library Association
šSouthwest Ohio Libraries Consortium
šAlberta Library Association
You can hire me to speak at your next event.
It’s important to note that the posts and videos on this blog are my own opinions based on my experience and do not represent the opinions of my employer.
Weird side note: I also have a blog about vintage cookbooks! The best place to find me is on LinkedIn.

Good morning, Angela – Wow! We just discovered you through your blog. Since I’m also a j-school grad and now doing library marketing, I agree on so many things it’s almost spooky! Rather than waste your time now, I’ll try to read more of what you’ve done. Again, thanks for giving two Hoosier library marketers a boost. TCPL Comm has come a long way, but we have miles of exploration and negotiations ahead of us. Marina Neal

Angela, we are in the process of rewriting our library’s PR and Marketing Coordinator job description in hopes of finding just the right person for the job. What are the skills, experience and education we should be looking for from a potential candidate for this type of position? I’d love to get your input on this!

Hi Angela,
After 18 years and 100’s of library customers, we have pivoted our manufacturing to address the current pandemic – specifically the spread of virus through shared computers in libraries. We have created a unique touchless, USB driven, hand-sanitizer dispenser specifically for libraries, that is designed to block access to any computer until hand sanitization is performed. It makes hand disinfection MANDATORY if the patron wants to use the computer, otherwise, the computer remains locked. Multiple options available, including a cloud-based portal to manage, report and control any number of qkCleanā¢ units in the library.
I thought this might be of interest to your readers especially highlighting the level of innovation out there to combat this problem.
Check it out at: http://www.qkClean.com
Thank you

How do you deal with patron Zoom overload? We are finding dwindling audiences even when we partner with other organizations or use program ideas they suggest. Help please?

Hi Angela,
I am currently working as a Media and Marketing Assistant for my library. I was considering going back to school; first, what, if any, degrees do you hold (if you don’t mind my asking!), and second, should I focus on Marketing or Graphic Design? Thanks! Clara

Hi Clara! How exciting for you! I would consider a communications degree: marketing, journalism, or public relations would all work well with library marketing. I have a journalist and general communications degree. I would focus on the marketing aspect over graphic design, unless graphic design is your passion. I say that because there are many free tools you can use to help you create beautiful graphics, but marketing in general, including writing, strategy, and data analysis, are skills that can’t be replicated by free tools (unfortunately). I hope this helps!

Hi Angela – We don’t have a large marketing budget at the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library. But we are investing in a social media person 20/hrs. week. I’m trying to pitch an actual social media budget but I have no idea what the average is. Can you help with this, or do a post about it? Thanks!

Hi Angela,
I am currently staying in Hamilton, New Zealand. The library here is losing visitors, and it doesn’t have a large budget (limited budget). Can you suggest some strategies for the library? People here are very active on social media. Please give some advice.
