Hello everyone!

I just thought I'd offer up a quick update to let you know how things are going with the sugarandginger project. The fiction is all in as well as some incredibly beautiful, moving pieces of art. More art is on the way whilst we continue to get the site up.

The site will go live on Wednesday March 1, so please look to this community for an official announcement and buttons and such!

If you have any questions or comments, please leave them here and I'll address them as best as I can.

If anyone has a fic they're planning on submitting, the deadline is February 12, Sunday evening. Please email work to sugarandginger AT gmail DOT com. Writers, if you started writing for the challenge but didn't quite make it, please feel free to email me. I've some questions I'd like to ask you.

ARTISTS, please look at the entries on THIS DATE and start claiming away! I will be needing your art no later than Sunday February 26.

I realise that some people started to write for the challenge and had to give up due to time constraints. HOWEVER, I am thinking of accepting any completed scenes or chapters you might have gotten finished and give them to the artists to illustrate as 'Missing Moments' or something. (Missing Moment submission would get no more than two illustrations.)

Hello All!

As stated in the challenge rules, the due date for rough drafts is looming. Rough drafts are due by 16 January and completed, finalised drafts are due by 12 February.

All drafts must be emailed to sugarandginger AT gmail DOT com. All fics must be submitted as Word documents. If your fic has formatting (bold, italics, etc), please include the HTML tags in your file. Also, be sure to turn off Smart Quotes. How do you do that? Go to Tools Menu -> Auto Correct -> click on 'Auto Format as You Type' tab -> Find the section that reads 'replace as you type' and remove the check/X in the 'straight quotes with smart quotes' box.

If you think you may be a bit late with your daft, let me know and when I can expect it.

When you send in your daft, please clarify via the body of your email which chapters (no more than 6) that you would like to see illustrated, if possible.

If there are any questions or concerns from anyone involved in the challenge in any capacity, please don't hesitate to ask me here!

sugarandginger is an information source community for artists and writers who will participate in this challenge. While anyone is welcome to friend the community, membership will be limited to challenge moderators and artists invited to illustrate the works. The results of the challenge will be posted on a web site (location TBA) on March 1, 2006. No art or fic will be posted to this community. However, at various times announcements and polls will be made.

The Challenge: To write the ultimate 7^th year Ron/Hermione fic. Harry's quest is nearing an end, but along the way his best friends discover a new beginning with one another. Over the past six years we have seen them bicker and balk, but they have been unable to deny their growing attraction to one another. Before Harry completes the prophecy and the story ends, Ron and Hermione must truly confront their feelings and decide whether it is better to play it safe and remain friends or risk everything for a more intimate relationship.

Half-Blood Prince finally confirmed once and for all that our ship is very sea-worthy, and we feel that now is the most opportune time to direct some wind into those sails and get the Good Ship sailing - finally. Book six provided us with enough to whet our appetite and now it's up to fandom's authors to explore myriad different possibilities for getting Ron and Hermione to truly connect and move forward together.

Year Seven will see the two supporting Harry on his quest for the remaining Horcruxes, and Ron and Hermione will surely have a journey of sorts themselves along the way.

Gone is the safety of Hogwarts. A war is raging, people are dying, many are missing, and not everyone is as they seem. Which will prove more trustworthy? The heart or the mind? There is no more child's play. The state of the wizarding world is precarious and real.

Ron and Hermione must overcome a great many obstacles and learn to work together. Harry is depending on them.

Rules:
*Fics must follow Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Your story does not need to encompass the entire year, or even touch on every issue raised left unresolved in HBP. However, all fics do need to have the same starting point, the one JKR presented at the conclusion of HBP. As JKR left off in HBP, Harry, Ron, and Hermione plan to set out after the remaining Horcruxes. You should start from there, and may go anywhere from that point as you like.

*All fics must be a minimum of 40,000 words. There is no maximum word count.

*Please maintain the characterisations that JKR has set up for Ron and Hermione over the course of the past six books. If there are radical shifts in characterization, they need to be extremely well-supported and plausible.

*Fics should be rated PG-13 or higher. Those who are not of legal age in their country of residence should write fic with a rating appropriate of their age.

*Rough drafts are due by January 16, 2006. Final beta'd versions must be turned in by February 12, 2006. Send drafts to sugarandginger [AT] gmail [DOT] com.

*All entries that meet qualifications will be illustrated by excellent and talented fandom artists. Fic and art will be archived on March 1, 2006 [Ron's birthday!], on a site that will be designed specifically for this challenge.

*Please do not post or archive your work anywhere else prior to March 1, 2006.

*All those interested in writing for the challenge should friend the community to keep up-to-date with information regarding the challenge.
