About

Our Three-part Strategy

In the fall of 2025, we launched a strategic planning process to identify the biggest challenges and opportunities Berkeley faces today and in the future. We engaged with campus leaders and our broader community of Berkeley alumni, donors, and advisors to generate their ideas. We identified a three-part strategy that will fuel Berkeley’s vision moving forward.

First Part: First Things First

Before we tackle big ideas for the long term, we’re addressing four critical areas where progress is both urgent and achievable.
  • Student Accommodations
Increasing accessibility and disability services to support the academic programs of faculty, staff and students.
  • Facilities and Physical Space
Renewing key physical spaces and facilities.
  • Faculty Merit and Promotion Process
Improving senate faculty merit and promotion review timelines.
  • Research Administration
    Improving the research administration ecosystem.

Second Part: Unit Strategies

Units will be developing their own strategic plans that reflect their unique priorities, disciplinary strengths and aspirations for the next five to ten years.

Third Part: Campus Strategies

Our campus strategies – are informed by unit strategies; faculty, student, and staff input; and other opportunities we’ve identified in the early part of our strategic planning process. For each opportunity area, we’ll develop innovative initiatives that leverage Berkeley’s collective strength and focus our resources where we can deliver meaningful societal benefit.
