Berkeley’s Strategic Plan

Illuminating our path forward

We stand at a pivotal moment. New technologies, shifting economics, and growing global pressures are forcing universities to rethink how they work — and how they contribute to solving society’s most pressing challenges. Berkeley has a real chance to shape what comes next, not just respond to it.

Our strategic plan for doing that starts with what we care about most: students who thrive here and leave ready to do meaningful work in the world, faculty who are pushing the edges of human knowledge, research that takes on problems that matter most and staff who are proud to work for a mission-driven institution. That’s what Berkeley has always done. We intend to keep doing it — and do it even better.

A Three-part Strategy

“This remarkable university is more than a place. It’s a promise.”

In the fall of 2025, we launched a strategic planning process grounded in conversations with campus leaders to identify the biggest opportunities and challenges facing Berkeley today and in the future. What emerged was the need to develop a three-part strategy that will fuel Berkeley’s vision moving forward.
