Built-In Resilience for Modern Cloud Infrastructures

Experience seamless disaster recovery with StorPool - Integrated, Efficient, Reliable.

Integrated Disaster Recovery for Cloud Environments

Backup and Disaster Recovery are major contributors to the quality of IT services your company offers to external customers and to your own users. A reliable recent backup copy of data ensures that your users’ data is protected from loss – whether accidental or malicious – while a disaster recovery solution provides additional protection from data loss while ensuring business continuity in the event of a disaster or other failure.

StorPool provides both of these critical services as part of our efforts to ensure you can provide continuous service and gain a competitive advantage. Additionally, we offer other data protection mechanisms such as built-in redundancy, triple-mirroring, and enhanced erasure coding.

Safeguard What Matters Most: Your Customers’ Data

While data protection is a high priority for every organization, it’s even more important to service providers – cloud, hosting, or managed service providers (MSPs). Providers need to protect their own data, but may have service level agreements (SLAs) in place for protection of their customers data. Data protection is critical for providers, as those who can’t protect their customers’ data do not retain customers.

StorPool’s software-defined storage (SDS) solution takes advantage of multiple technologies (VolumeCare for immutable snapshots, 24/7/365 monitoring, and our Disaster Recovery Engine for protection against data center failure) to provide easy and reliable data protection for our customers.

Dependable Data Backup Built for Modern Infrastructure

Making backup copies of data is a very common method of data protection. A backup is simply a copy of your data stored elsewhere.

StorPool Storage provides backup through our VolumeCare service. VolumeCare allows our customers to set specific policies to automatically create atomic crash-consistent snapshots of data at specified points in time.

StorPool’s snapshots are instant, very space efficient, and have no effect on storage performance. We use differential snapshots that contain only the data that has changed since the previous snapshot. StorPool Storage snapshots can be stored on lower-performance storage tiers and can be replicated to another StorPool system, providing even more robust data protection.

The Disaster Recovery Engine

Disaster recovery is a data protection technology that safeguards your data against the loss of an entire data center. A disaster recovery solution copies data and metadata from one physical location to another. This protects data in the event that some natural disaster destroys or brings an entire data center offline. More often, disaster recovery allows an organization to keep their systems running by continuing to have their data available in the event of a temporary data center outage due to power outages, storms, or other incidents.

The StorPool Disaster Recovery Engine:

The first-ever built-in disaster recovery solution for KVM-based clouds.
KVM has no cross-site intelligence and so can’t provide disaster recovery. The StorPool Disaster Recovery Engine provides this cross-site intelligence.
Allows you to create customized policies on a per-virtual machine (VM) basis to automatically take snapshots and replicate them to another location.
Offers multiple data protection deployment models.

Disaster Recovery Engine Protection Models

An Active-Passive solution uses a primary site and a dedicated recovery site. In the event the primary site fails, operations are moved to the recovery site.

An Active-Active solution has two primary sites running different workloads. Data is being replicated in both directions with each site acting as a recovery site for the other. In the event of a failover, all the DR-enabled workloads would be running in one of the sites alongside the existing primary workloads, mandating proper compute resource planning in both sites.

Our Many-to-One solution is a very cost-effective option. In this model, a single site acts as the recovery site for multiple primary sites. Since disasters typically affect specific local regions, the recovery site only requires enough resources to provide for the recovery of one to a few sites. Most disaster recovery solutions do not support a Many-to-One configuration.

Our Multi-Site Mesh solution allows for load-balancing across multiple recovery sites. Since our snapshot and disaster recovery options can be configured on a per-VM basis, if 3,000 VMs were running at a single site, the site could be set up to replicate 1,000 VMs to each of 3 other sites. This model is ideal for customers supporting multi-region clouds. The Multi-Site Mesh is not available in other disaster recovery solutions.
