Sustainable Tech
Reduce e-waste and your carbon-footprint by buying used or refurbished tech. Also buy tech from companies that use recycled materials, treat workers fairly, and/or support ethical mining efforts. Many large tech companies rely on mining slave labor in places like Congo, or sweatshop labor to build their products. If you buy big tech’s products, it is better to buy used/refurbished over new.
Buy used tech:
- Keh - used photography gear
- mpb - used photography gear
- ebay refurbished tech
- back market
- gazelle - used phones
- swappa
- Mercari - used electronics
- Mercari - Used gaming
- OfferUp
other methods to reduce e-waste
- recycle outdated tech at a local electronic recycler, ifixit, or retail tech store such as Bestbuy.
- restore old tech or keep it using it after manufacturer support ends by installing a custom android rom, or a Linux OS.
- use phones until it no longer functions/updates, which is usually 5-10 years depending on manufacturer.
- buy new phones from companies that support conservation, or right to repair efforts.
- build your own custom pc with used parts that can be upgraded when needed, or find a local computer shop to build one for you.
