Today’s update marks the release of VR for Steam! We provided some tips & tricks on how to best experience the game in VR.

Please note that mods are not officially supported in this game and that running them can contribute to crashes and gameplay features breaking. Play at your own risk when using mods. When troubleshooting, always check your mods first.

To kick-start you in your virtual reality experience, there’s a few things you need to know about the VR port of FNAF:SOTM

• The VR port does not support room-scale play. Stay within your player boundary and use in-game locomotion controls to navigate. Leaving your boundary and physically walking around will cause interactions to fail.

• VR port includes settings specific to this mode. But there’s another setting you’ll need to adjust yourself outside the game.

  • To adjust the in-game FPS for PC VR, Steam Link and Index users must change the "refresh rate (hz)" in SteamVR settings. Quest Link/Air Link users can adjust it via the Meta Horizon Link desktop app's "Graphics Preferences." Always consider your PC specs' limits when increasing the refresh rate.

  • If you can’t reach 120/144 Hz in PC VR, try turning SteamVR’s “motion smoothing” setting off.Sometimes deleting the entire “configs” folder (i.e., [c]C:\\Users\\%USERNAME%\\AppData\\Local\\FNAF_SOTM\\Saved\\Config)[/c] helps.

• More haptic feedback have been implemented across the game, especially for Steam Flat

• Lowered the default gamma for better spookiness

• Added dynamic resolution

• Improved Upgrade Station usability in VR by:

  • Disabling the input blocks on the sides during the upgrade minigame

  • Re-designed the orientation to horizontal layout design

• Fixed a VR specific issue where crouching during a minigame can reset Mr. Helpful. This caused a soft-lock in Big Top Showroom minigames, but not the side area minigames in Warehouse

• Fixed an issue where the player could walk off the Welcome Show lift right after pulling the lever. This caused a soft-lock in ACT 3 ‘Goodbye Show’

• Fixed a crash that can occur when quitting to Main Menu

• Fixed an issue with invisible collision in the Theater Backstage catwalks on return

• Fixed an issue with certain cranks where interaction radius can shift slightly after briefly letting go

• Fixed an issue where the main menu UI was sometimes unresponsive

• Fixed an issue where you could not go to the Brightness Calibration screen specifically from the Main Menu

• Fixed an issue where the player had to back out of the Graphics Options Menu twice if the brightness setup when opened prior

• Fixed an issue where the Data Diver upgrades were not automatically granted unless the player presses the ‘end’ button

• Fixed an issue where the player could not skip the intro/outro cutscenes using VR controllers

• Fixed an issue where various gameplay settings can visually (not functionally) reset after applying them

• Fixed an issue with secondary AI causing haptic feedback

• Fixed an issue with standees causing haptic feedback

• Fixed an issue where the distractable mice toys were absent in the Inventory Machine

• Fixed an audio issue where the crank rotation SFX was globally missing

• Fixed an issue where the loading icon would not cycle through the numbers, and would disappear early before the level is fully loaded

• Fixed a collision issue where the player could get stuck in the sofa in Upper Theater

• Fixed a VR specific issue where the world could potentially unload after using the airlock back-and-forth to the Showrooms

• Fixed a VR-specific issue where the screen momentarily blinked black when progressing through the start of Jackie’s Chase

• Fixed an issue where Big Top’s rotational speed was still link to FPS, which had previously made it frustratingly hard for players with higher FPS to beat this section. Sorry :)

• Fixed an issue where the door crank can feel unresponsive during the Welcome Lobby elevator repair sequence

• Fixed an audio issue where the showroom music stops or fails to replay after reloading

• Fixed a haptics issue where turning on the emergency brake during the Welcome Lobby elevator repair caused continuous haptics

• Fixed a soft-lock issue where the crank holding the bridge skipped its animation and got stuck in place

• Fixed a VR specific issue where the player’s view was not locked into the Springlock Suit when waking up before Nurse Dollie

• Fixed a haptics issue with the conveyor belts causing continuous haptics

• Fixed a haptics issue with Dollie’s movement when she’s on the tracks, causing continuous haptics

• Fixed a haptics issue where turning on the emergency brake during the Doll Hospital elevator repair caused continuous haptics

• Fixed an issue where the ON/OFF slider would not initially register during the Doll Hospital elevator repair sequence

• Fixed an issue where the door crank would feel unresponsive until it finally jerks to the correct position during the Doll Hospital elevator repair sequence

• Fixed an audio issue with the missing sound of the balancer sliders during the Doll Hospital elevator repair sequence

• Fixed an issue where the Star Orphan would appear back at the elevator after reloading the conduit puzzle checkpoint in the Night Light Maze

• Fixed an issue where the Welcome Show could potentially appear unloaded if the player runs from the Storage Area

• Fixed a haptics issue where using distractions in the Night Light Maze would cause continuous haptics

• Fixed a VR specific soft-lock where the Springlock suits turn into VR pawns and become uninteractable if the player interacts with two Springlock in rapid succession

• Fixed a VR specific blocker where the vents could potentially unload and/or brick your save if the player threw their Data Diver into the Inventory Station and very quickly rushed into the panic vents…

• Fixed a VR specific issue where the player’s hands were not visible during the Framed ending or the Walk Away ending

• Fixed a VR specific issue where the credits were only being displayed during the Redeemed ending

• Fixed an issue where the credits were being clipped off by the the player’s peripherals during the Framed ending

• Fixed a VR specific issue where corrupted/static images can potentially appear in the background during the Framed ending cinematic and credits

• Fixed a VR specific issue with the incorrect player positioning after entering the wardrobe hiding spot after the first initial time

• Fixed an issue where the gates would close early and visually clip through the player during the Dark Ride sequence

• Fixed a VR specific issue where the blind volumes would appear during the Dark Ride to the Inventor’s House

• Fixed a FLAT specific issue where the camera could potentially go behind Arnold’s shoulders when using the subterminal in the attic

The team would like to provide a small list of known issues. We intend to fix these issues in a later patch, but for now, we have found workarounds in the event you encounter them.

• A known flat-specific soft-lock issue causes the elevator to the Manager’s Hallway to link to FPS: the higher your FPS, the smaller the elevator door opens when it breaks down. If your FPS exceeds 600, the door closes entirely upon breaking down. To bypass this, temporarily cap your FPS and enable v-sync.

• A known VR-specific issue where pausing specifically while in the Springlock Suit in the beginning of the Doll Hospital can affect the Pause Screen functionality. This may also cause the VR hands to become invisible as well. Simply relaunching the game will fix this.

• A known flat-specific issue where pausing during the NG+ Redeemed Ending displays a black-screen. This is not a soft-lock as simply waiting a few minutes will take you back to the Main Menu.

• A known VR-specific issue on the Dark Ride (to Retail Showroom) where the camera can momentarily go off-center if you are not looking forward. It will fix itself at the end of the ride.

• A known VR-specific issue for the Steam Link app users where the player position is off-center and won’t reset. The workaround is to keep your head still during any and all loading screens, transitions, and on startup launch.

• A known VR-specific issue where the transition to the Storage Area security office from end of Jackie’s Chase can stay on a black-screen. It’s a very small chance. The workaround is to pause/unpause the game.

• A known flat-specific issue where your control input is not locked during loading screens.

• There is a very small chance of a soft-lock where the catwalks lift in the Welcome Show/Goodbye Show would not work. If you encounter this issue, please shoot us an email at

• A known issue where Star Brights can be visually oriented incorrectly on the pedestals.

• A known issue where the Big Top Showroom doors leading up to Rooftops could open early without completing all 3 mini-games.

• A known issue where trying to destructively force enter a Springlock Suit after opening the R&D office where F10-N4 is can soft-lock you.
