I've noticed a problem with this and several other Vlambeer games that use really low bit sound clips and music. It appears that Windows 8 must have dropped support as games will crash if certain sound effects are played. I've messed with Game Maker and I can prove that games will crash when true 8-bit sound effects are played (at least as far as Game Maker games are concerned)....

every time I start up this game it runs for a min or 2 then it pops up saying that the sstre.exe has stoped working does anyone know how to fix this?

Good news metro machine users! As with Super Crate Box, Serious Sam: The Random Encounter suffers from crashing on windows 8 computers, and I've created a crash fix for it as well. The sounds are incompatible with Win 8 and the developer has shown little to no interest in fixing their old games. This game will NOT work on windows 8 until the developer fixes the sound crash.
