Located in a sprawling basin surrounded on all sides by mountains, Pǔlǐ (埔里) is a town of approximately 82,000 in the geographic center of Taiwan. It is now the largest settlement in the foothills of the Central Mountain Range but wasn’t formally a part of the Taiwanese polity until 1875.
