峨眉

Emei

Éméi (峨眉) is a small rural township in southern Hsinchu County, Taiwan. It is sparsely populated with approximately 5,000 residents who are overwhelmingly Hakka. The mountainous township is renowned for its Buddhist cave temples, particularly Shuilian Cave Temple (水濂洞) and Shitoushan Lingxia Cave (獅頭山靈霞洞), which are built into natural rock formations and attract pilgrims to the area. Emei’s economy centers on agriculture, especially rice, tea, and citrus production, with the region noted for producing high-quality Oriental Beauty (東方美人) tea.
