SolarWinds Orion Core Services is the foundational platform layer that powers Orion-based IT monitoring and management modules. It delivers a centralized web console, a common data model, discovery and inventory, polling, alerting, reporting, and role-based access control. Core components include the Job Engine for scheduling and data collection, the Information Service (API) for queries and integrations, and services for syslog and SNMP trap processing. Performance and configuration data are stored in Microsoft SQL Server and surfaced through customizable dashboards and reports.
Designed for Windows Server environments, Orion Core Services supports scalable deployments with additional polling engines and optional high availability. Administrators can define granular alerts and notifications, apply templates for consistent monitoring, and automate tasks via the SDK and APIs (SWIS/SWQL/REST).
