Glacies means ice in latin, which is also his name. Glacies was homeless for as long as he could remember, always traveling to different places in searching for food for survival...and barely made contact with others, even when desperate. Due to him being antisocial...it also lead to his downfall. As he slowly dies from fatigue, dehydration, and fatal wounds form a recent fight...Dream...a human god from the Seventh plane of existence, visits Glacies and offers him a second chance. Glacies refuses the offer but Dream take Glacies with him anyway. Dream takes him to the Seventh plane of existence, which he then teaches him everything he could...from writing to controlling his ice and water abilities he suddenly gained. Glacies wondered how did he aquire these abilities, so he asked Dream about it.
The Seventh plane of existence wasn't designed for mortals. Even if you somehow managed to get here...you would be vaporized in an instant. For the sake of both of us, I...ended you, and placed a fraction of my power inside you so you could keep your mind and body intact.
This traumatized Glacies to the point of depression. This continued for at least a few days until Glacies noticed Dream was depressed as well. Glacies then began to think why Dream chose him out of the billions of people on his planet...so he questioned him and he answered.
Anybody would know the presence of a god...even if they never knew what a god was. Heh heh...it's almost funny how they know who I am when I've never met them. But you were the only one in your world who didn't know what I was, so I chose you.
Glacies then asked if there was any other reason why he chose him.
...I'm lonely.
Glacies realized the answer. Despite Dream being with Genesis...a friend that he created, he wanted an actual friend. So he chose him out of pity and hope of gaining a real friend. Dream has been lonely since the beginning of time, and he didn't want to be anymore. Glacies eventually accepted his new role as a god and was nominated as the second Guardian of Creation, and also Dream's first real friend.
