Pack Behavior: What Lay Ahead
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Blinking the young lycanthrope sniffed the air several times over and then turned his head towards the doors of the pokemon center as a very odd scent caught onto the edge of his sense of smell. Narrowing his eyes Carl watched in awe as a lucario and an eevee stepped through the front doors of the building.
A six foot tall lucario and a five foot plus tall bipedal eevee.
Immediately the alarm bells went off within the were-lucaroc’s head and soon red spilled over his vision as he gripped his hands tightly onto his snoozing alpha’s heads. While he wasn’t as strong as the other two Carl was determined not to let these odd pokemon, if they even were pokemon, try and bring harm to his packmates and he had no problem fighting to the death in order to protect his alphas, as could be seen by his fingernails lengthening into claws. The sudden thought that perhaps these two were lycanthropes like he, Larc, and Rip-Raff flitted through Carl’s mind, but something felt off about the pair. For one, they weren’t as big as his alphas, which Carl guessed was a telltale sign that these two were not lycanthropes, as the were-lucario who had attacked Larc all those years ago had been just as massive as his brother was now. Secondly, even though the moon wasn’t full it was close enough that the pair should have been ementating a much more...intense presence than what he felt coming from at the moment. And third, that lucario felt familiar for some reason. Growling as the pair entered into the pokemon center, Carl felt his fangs dropping down inside of his mouth as he glared at the strange anthropomorphic pokemon.
The lucario, quickly sensing that something was amiss, turned, and then let his mouth drop open as shock and disbelief overcame him; the eevee slowly followed suit after tracking his larger companion’s gaze.
‘Who...are you?’ a voice whispered into Carl’s head slightly startling him.
Once he got his thoughts in order, and suppressed the rumbling instincts that were telling him to attack the other two, the young lycanthrope replied with…‘Who are you?’
‘My name is Max. Maximus Pride. And this is my mate, Keith.’
‘Mate?’ Carl asked curiously while turning his crimson eyes onto the bundle of brown and cream nerves which looked ready to bolt and yet refused to move the from right side of the lucario.
“Oh, hello Max and Keith.” Nurse Joy beamed after stepping out from the door back behind the counter. “I take it take you heard about what happened here earlier today?” she asked while smiling at the two anthro pokemon.
“Yes,” the eevee spoke aloud before bowing his head shamefully. “and we’re sorry that we didn’t make it here in time to help. We were...uh...caught on something.” Keith chuckled nervously as his tail wagged behind him playfully. “Is everything ok now?”
“Mm-hmm, thanks to our heroes over there.” Nurse Joy turned to look at the scowling Carl. “That young man and his pokemon were integral in preventing Team Rocket from stealing the pokemon here.”
“Oh really.” Both Max and Keith turned too look at Carl. “Well thank you very much for all your help.”
“Not a problem.” Carl said tightly.
“Is everything ok, Carl?” Nurse Joy asked curiously as she noted the young lycanthrope’s odd change in disposition.
“I’m just really uncomfortable all of a sudden.”
“Oh dear! I forgot to have Chansey bring out the blankets for you. Wait right there while I go and get them.” It was just as Nurse Joy was about to turn to leave that Keith and Max turned to look to each other and then…
“If you want, you can come to our place.” Max offered gently.
“Huh?” Carl chirped.
“You and your...pokemon would probably be much more comfortable there than they would here in this cramped space.” the eevee stated while giving Carl a strange knowing look.
For a moment nothing was said by the younger man as he stared down the lucario and eevee, but then, after nearly a minute Carl asked…
“Can I trust you?”
