Rye (the blue otter) became quick friends with a new student at the beginning of the school year. Cloud (the white otter) was grateful for the kindness he received from Rye, and they quickly started to spend time together during and after school. Rye however quickly discovered that he was attracted to the white otter, but did not risk his friendship by making his attraction known.

For weeks Rye remained friendly with Cloud but struggled as his attraction for Cloud grew stronger. The two otters spent a large amount of time together as friends: playing video games, watching a movie, doing homework, or swimming at the pool. After a few team games of laser tag, the otters wanted to compete against only each other which led them into playing a midnight game. Starting out as a friendly competition, the otters soon were wrestling underneath the surface of the pool. The close contact and playfulness overwhelmed Rye and before he could stop himself, he licked Cloud across the muzzle with affection.

Seeing Cloud's shocked expression, Rye quickly feared he made a wrong move. He was shocked when Cloud smiled back at him and returned his affection.

Rye and Cloud are my two otter characters starring in the story titled Tropical.
