“Hmmm…” Aaron said as he looked over the fence of a Pokémon daycare center. Seeing the assortment of Pokémon of all shapes and sizes, he wasn’t sure which one he’d want to get, if any.
“Excuse me, young man,” spoke an old man in his early fours as he walked over to Aaron. “I couldn’t help noticing you staring for the past 10 minutes. Are you interested in adopting one by any chance?”
“Oh, sorry didn’t mean to. Was out for a jog and I noticed this,” Aaron replied. Aaron wore sweatpants, an orange shirt, and a headband below his brown hair and against his white skin. He smiled awkwardly at the old man with his green eyes, not realizing he was staring.
“I mean, I don’t know,” Aaron continued. “I’ve not thought about adoption before. I know there’re some Digimon, Pokémon, and other creatures in the area that’re doing adoption centers, it just hadn’t crossed my mind till recently.”
“And may I ask what caused you to think about it now?” The old man asked.
“I think, I mean, I’d kinda like a partner to play sports with. I just don’t know what kinda partner to pick,” Aaron explained.
“I see… If you want, how about you pick one at random,” he offered.
Aaron looked at him confused. “Basically,” the old man continued. “When we find people coming into our care center wanting a Pokémon, and they can’t decide. We have them pick from a machine at random and tell them not to see who’s inside until they get home. We’ve had a lot of success and people seem to enjoy finding their friends that way.”
Oooh,” Aaron understood. He closed his eyes with a finger under his chin to think about it for a moment. Then he nodded. “Alright, we’ll give it a try.”
Aaron walked into the daycare center building with the old man. After seeing the machine, it was kinda like a claw game and every Pokeball inside looked the same. Aaron tried his luck and after a moment of hesitating, he pressed the button, and the claw caught a Pokeball and dropped it until the slot.

“Remember, you can only open it when you get home. But if you have any issues, come back here and let us know. We do hope you’ll enjoy your new partner though.”
“Thank you, sir,” Aaron said, holding the Pokeball in his hand. He put it in his pocket and filled out the necessary paperwork before heading out. He took a deep breath and then resumed his jog through the city to his apartment. Once inside, he wiped himself down, got a tall glass of cold water, and turned on the AC.
“Hope this place will be big enough for two…” Aaron had a modest studio apartment that was usually just enough for him. He took out the Pokeball and gripped it firmly. “Let’s see who I got.” Aaron tossed the ball, and it popped open as a Pokémon appeared above him… but before he could move out of the way, a pair of red paws with yellow dots on the bottom fell on and pushed him to the floor. Cinderace looked around from side to side, confused by the new environment. Aaron twitched as he was pinned and blushed a bit with the paws smothering him.
“Hmmm? Huh? Wait? This isn’t the daycare center,” Cinderace said as he looked around the studio apartment. “Cozy renovation though.”
“Gomgmprhhrr!” Aaron yelled from below. Cinderace looked down and flexed his toes, noticing the man.
“Hey! Are you my new trainer?” Cinderace bent forward to place his hands on the floor. He moved his feet off Aaron’s face, making him gasp for air. The rabbit cupped Aaron’s head from behind using his toes, and pushed him up, doing a handstand in the process.
Aaron, not processing what happened, stood up with ease just from Cinderace using his head as leverage. Cinderace, while still standing on his hands, looked at Aaron “Hey pal!” he smiled widely as Aaron turned around.
“Woah, a Cinderace?” Aaron asked, wiping his face from the soft rabbit paw prints he had.
“You got it! Nice to meet you! What’s your name?” Cinderace asked, extending a foot for him to shake since he was upside down.
Aaron awkwardly took the foot and shook it; the sole alone was bigger than his whole hand. “U-uh, Aaron. Aaron Miles,” he responded. Cinderace flipped upright and went over to hug him, nuzzling his face.
“Thanks for adopting me!”
Aaron chuckled and hugged him back, petting his head from instincts. “Uh, no problem. This is just a little new to me but make yourself home.”
Cinderace explored the room. Aaron had a desk with a computer in the corner, some exercise equipment in another, a lounge chair with a projector from the ceiling, and a small kitchen in the hallway leading to the exit, bathroom, and closet. Cinderace went to the bathroom and saw the shower/bath combo along with the sink and mirror.

“You live here? I love it,” Cinderace said then his stomach growled, making him a bit embarrassed.
“Guess you’re hungry? I’m not a chef but let’s see if I got something…”
Cinderace watched Aaron go to the cabinets, open the fridge, and check the pantry for food. Aaron made a simple sandwich, putting bread in a toaster, and fried eggs, ham, and diced peppers in the skillet on the stove.

Cinderace’s eyes shimmered and he licked his lips at the food being cooked. When the bread was done, Aaron spread strawberry jam on one side, and grape jelly on the other, putting the sandwiches together and cut them in half. Cinderace bounced in place on his tip toes while waiting, getting more excited as Aaron finished.
“There you go, hope you like it,” he gave Cinderace his plate and a small cup of orange juice.
Cinderace cheered as he sat down and took a big bite of the sandwich.

“It’s so good!” Cinderace exclaimed as he shuffled his heels against the floor. He drank the orange juice and then devoured the rest of the sandwich, making Aaron laugh as he sat on the floor next to him to eat.
“Hehe, awesome. I love making one of these in the morning before I go out for a jog,” he said.
Cinderace licked his lips. “You go jogging in the morning?” He asked quickly before taking another bite of his food.

“Yeah, I go jogging and work out in my spare time. Today’s my day off from my job as a staff member at the gym in town,” he said.
Cinderace finished his food while listening and drank the rest of his orange juice, letting out a large sigh of content then shuffled down and laid on his back on the floor. “That was so good~”

Aaron shook his head and continued eating. “Hmm… I guess I need to go grocery shopping for two now…” He said getting a little bit worried since his part-time job was enough to sustain him but now, he may need to reevaluate that. Still, when he looked over at Cinderace’s smiling face, it didn’t bother him at much. “You got crumbs all over your face,” Aaron noted.
Cinderace bleped then sat up and rubbed his face with his elbow. “Can I get another?” He asked eagerly.
“Uh… let me finish eating first but I don’t think I have enough to make more,” he said.
Cinderace poked his side pleadingly, making Aaron lose ground as he tried not to stare at the begging rabbit’s eyes. Cinderace turned around and poked Aaron on the cheek with his toes. “Pleaseeeee~”
Aaron lightly blushed and pushed the foot off his cheek, holding it up with one hand with his sandwich in the other. “Alright, alright, I’ll make you another,” he admitted defeat.
“Yay!” Cinderace smiled widely and interlocked his toes with Aaron’s fingers, rocking his hand from side to side.
“Hey! I need that you know, let go,” he said but Cinderace kept cheering and curled his toes playfully. Aaron rolled his eyes but couldn’t help but chuckle at his new partner. “Well, if you intend on living here, we need to go over some ground rules first,” he said to which Cinderace still smiled but paid attention, letting go of his hand and then sat up on his knees to listen.
“Firstly, keep this place clean, no loud noises at 9pm, I work from 10am to 3pm during the week, so you’ll either have to be in your Pokeball or stay home until I get back… umm…” Aaron tried to come up with more rules but was drawing a blank. He never had a roommate before, so he wasn’t sure what else to say.
“Aye, aye sir!” Cinderace said with a salute.
“There’s more but I’ll come up with it later,” he said then finished his sandwich and got up to go cook more. Cinderace wagged his cotton tail, loving the idea of them living together.
