This is a state park, but there are plenty of houses not far away. A developers went bankrupt, and they are selling off houses for pennies on the dollar. Most are being used as summer/vacation houses by people from places like Atlanta.

If you wanted to stay here, there are cabins and campground sites. You need a reservation, and that tends to be a bit difficult due to popularity, but it can be done.

The walk along Carrick Creek to their waterfalls is very nice as well. We did not go hiking on the mountain past the waterfalls, but there are some pretty extensive trails on the mountainside.

Lakes are always great, but it is even better when they are smooth and mirror the landscape. It took some work, but I like how this turned out.
