Here is a (not so great) picture of my tail from a local mini-convention here in Orlando. Tail was made by my mate Amaracol in 2009.

It's got a wire support on the inside to help hold shape, made from fur found at JoAnn's, and filled with microbeads. Belt loop at top to keep secured.
